Worst pub in Forest Hill suddenly has a new rival in The Hill next door. Always worried when I walk into a boozer and the bar staff are as drunk as I aim to be at the end of the evening. Loads of sport on telly, but you can only watch what the boring guy in the corner wants to see, as he apparently has ownership of the remote...

Perfectly ordinary old-school boozer. No real ale or interesting lagers / ciders. Pool table. Plentiful screens for sport. All of which might be a recommendation or not. Take your pick

Dis one roughouse biznizz.

3 different lagers ordered seemingly all tasted remarkably the same.

Used to use this pub for a week night drink and a few games of pool.

Typical drinking mans pub, few kids knocking about and a couple of gobby locals...no problem to me on the occasions I was in.

Came in here about 18 months ago to watch a Saturday afternoon game on sky and was amazed and pleased at the land lady's treatment of cab drivers coming in and buying 1 drink between 3 or 4 of them and making it last all match...she didn't take any nonsense and made them all buy a minimum of 2 drinks...well done.

Good honest pub.

Excellent pub with great landlady - Tina.

Came here tonight after a brief visit to Antic's new pub, The Sylvan Post where I spent 8.50 on a pint of cider and a large glass of wine.

Then went across the road to The Bird in Hand and the same round cost about 5.50!

A bit noisy which is what you expect on a Friday night but this is always a good pub - only negative comment would be about quite young children running about... not sure if this pub is the right environment for them.

I thought that the landlady in here was nice enough and the mix of plasma screen, TV and projector make it ideal for watching the football. There is a pool table at the rear of the pub and I had no problems with any of the other customers.

There are four hand pumps, but two of these were off and the other two were dispensing Courage Best. There is only a standard draught menu available alongside the ale, but I had a decent Guinness.

As I mentioned before, this place is good if some sport is on, but I wouldnt bother if there was not.

what a improvement the new manager Tina has made to this pub. It has a more friendlier and inviting atmosphere and I have now become 100% regular.

Incredibly cheap and always busy, be careful once your in though, not particularly safe.

This place has gone down hill. Went in and the pool table had been taken away with the customers.

This pub is an absolute dive and although under new management is still the same old pikey infested scumhole it has always been.

Whoever said 'awful, The place to be if you want to mix with no good lowlifes' is way off.

It's an old fashioned, honest-to-goodness no frills pub that doesn't sit with modern ideas of what a pub should be. There's no 'gastro' element, no 'tastefully chosen' lighting, no obscure, trendy ales.

There is, however, good beer and the bar staff were nice and friendly. Me and a mate went to watch the football in there one afternoon, and we had a great time.

Boozer that ticks most of the boxes. Down to earth, Millwall type of place.

Awful. The place to be if you want to mix with no good lowlifes. Very busy on Giro day.

If this pub is still like it was a year ago it deserves 10 out of 10. I used to go there all the time to watch the football and have a drink after going to the Den MMMMMMMIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL good competition on the pool table and beer is cheap. The place has an atmosphere where it is easy to talk to people.
birdnhandroger - 17 Jun 2005 19:14
Cheap but not necessarily cheerful
valis4 - 17 Mar 2004 16:29
Great place and cheap beer! Can be some 'controversy' on the pool table. The Winning Lines quiz machines usually yields a few quid though.
