Largely a restaurant catering for tourists, particularly divers and walkers. There is a separate bar area. Excellent beer (Orkney Dark Island) and friendly, efficient staff. We didn''t eat but the food looked very good. Almost certainly the best bar in Stromness

Yes, probably the best on Orkney. Decent choice of local ales, though pricey (why, the beer's brewed on the island, isn't it ?). Must have been cleaned up since Snarling_Mallard's and undeaded's visits.

One half ,by the telly, is like a poor bar, the other end would be stretching it to call 'restaurant'. Dining area for a B & B would be closer the mark. the place generally smells like a greasy spoon cafe. Had a seasonal dark ale from one of the Orkney breweries which was undrinkable and I changed it for a slightly more palatable brew which was still pretty insipid. One of those places in the GBG purely because it has handpumps.

Best pub in Orkney (Stromness, Kirkwall), easily better than any of the pubs in Kirkwall. Has a divided area for drinking and eating. It is dark, but friendly enough
Also had a evening in the Stromness hotel, which although is bright and airy is grotty in comparison.

Had a quick pint in here whilst on holiday with my girlfriend. A lot of the seating is torn and ripped and held together with gaffer tape - nice! This adds to the general run down ambience of the place. Had a pint of Dark Island which was virtually undrinkable. It seems not all the dives in Orkney are in Scapa Flow! Avoid.

Worse than EVER!

Torn seats as far as the eye can see, slow, disinterested bar staff, and a filthy floor - my how this place has gone to the dogs. Avoid at all costs.

Great atmosphere. Darkish, but once your eyes get used to that you'll like it. Possibly how a harbour pub used to be, or at least how it should be! The Thursday night folk sessions by guys and girls who are playing together for twenty years are not to be missed - ABSOLUTE top class. Now boasts two local ales (a couple of years only one), during my visit Scapa Special and the best Dark Island you'll likely to find anywhere. Quite large restaurant area where you may sample absolutely lovely food with lots of local produce; watch the blackboard.

A fine atmosphere in this famous pub. Does a lovely bit of grub and its nautically themed decor does wonders for us divers after a day spent diving in Scapa Flow.

Large L shaped bar with large lower area given over to food with cheap early eating offers. Drinking area fairly dark but good pint of Dark Island
