not a bad marstons pub,prob the first pub (other than the superb sheffield tap) that you will come across heading into town from the station. The four handpumps featured ringwood boondoggle,wychwood hobgoblin,banks's original and a marstons single hop ale which i quaffed at a respectable �2.65,7/10

Trusty old Marstons/Banks pub just up from the station. Usually a decent choice of ales as well as a mixed bag of customers from students, locals and people inbetween trains. Not the greatest of pubs but I feel comfortable always in there. Staff friendly too.

Standard circuit pub with a mock tudor exterior and little else of architectural merit. It's large and opened up inside, with a mixture of traditional furnishings and sofas, a pool table and lots of Sky Sports screens. I imagine most custom comes from students at the nearby Hallam University. Also will attract custom from the station as it was the closest pub to it until last month with the arrival of the excellent Sheffield Tap in the station itself (not on BITE and not likely to be the way things are at the minute). It closed last year and reopened recently, and is actually slightly improved in that 2 real ales are usually available from the Marstons/Banks/Jennings stable- Banks' Bitter and Old Empire on my visit. Banks' was surprisingly good and cheap at �2. In a city like Sheffield this pub doesn't stand out at all, and there's no reason to go out of your way to visit. That said, it's improved and I might just be popping in again. Far worse pubs and far better pubs in Sheffield.

Still has the mock-tudor look externally; the inside, however, is garish and does (as other reviewers have said) appear unloved. Given that this is one of the closest pubs to Sheffield station and that both food and beer (Banks's mild at �1.80 a pint, good condition) are cheap, I can only assume that the owners are aiming the pub firmly at the passing trade/student market. For those wanting slightly more, better to try one of the several good pubs on Charles Street.

Dreadful place - beer not bad and nice barmaid but sticky tables, also rowdy, run down and cheerless. It's just across the road from the station so I suppose they think why put effort and money in when they'll get passing trade anyway.

Only Banks's Original which was pretty dreadful, near the end of the barrel. Only in here because we had a half hour wait at the station. A last resort.

How many times do you have to ask for your pint (one inch below brim) to be topped up before the penny drops? Quality and price OK (Banks) but service "couldn't care less". Presumably the cheap price is a result of savings made by short measure.

Typical 'railway station nearby' pub - cheap food, nice handpull and a lot of passing/afternoon trade. Slightly unusual in that it also attracts a lot of students from Hallam University, so can get pretty rammed in the evening.

Not too bad. Had a half-pint here last night (arrived early for train back to London). Friendly guy from Belfast at the bar.
Sports-oriented pub with TV and sound piped through loudspeakers. One real ale available on H/P.
