One year on and the Bedford is still shut behind builders screens. No idea what's happening now.

Planning Application 10/00771/FUL was granted by Lambeth Planning as a delegated decision on 27/04/2010 for "Conversion of upper floors to provide 6 self-contained units, involving the erection of a three-storey rear extension and a rear dormer roof extension with the installation of two rear rooflights. Demolition of part of the boundary wall to create access and exit gate to the rear at lower ground floor level, creation of a new entrance to the residential units to the front elevation and the removal of existing decking to the rear elevation at lower ground floor level and the creation of a cycle store to the rear elevation."
No mention of the pub apart from the decking but work has begin.

The Bedford appears to have closed and the furniture and carpets downstairs have been removed. According to the land registry, the freehold of the building was sold to Langholm Property Co Limited on 26 January 2009. I believe that the freehold was previously owned by Watney Combe Reid & Company Limited. The lease which was owned by Young's was for the term of 25 years from 29 September 1984. It would appear then that the lease has reverted from Young's to Langholm Property. There have been planning applications this year for converting the upper levels of the building into flats which have been refused by Lambeth Planning. There do not appear to be any restrictive covenants in the freehold which would prevent Langholm Property from leasing the property as a pub.
Fortunately where one door closes, another opens, with the re-opening of the White Lion, although as before, sadly with no real ale.

I have had some great times in this pub. I think really this place is mostly about music and a good rockin attitude. you get some right characters and the beers not too expensive.

Went a few Saturday's ago when my other half's band were playing there. No real ale on (as has been the case the last 3 times we went to gigs there.) Staff seemed not to have much clue about anything but were pleasant enough. Ladies toilets some of the worst I've been too - how the upstairs reaches health and safety standards is beyond me.
Went and sat in the garden to avoid the heat and was overjoyed to witness a group of vomiting under 18s off their faces on jagermeister.
A place to avoid unless theres a band on you really cannot miss!

Largish music-orientated pub on Streatham High Road, approx 10 minutes walk from Streatham Hill station. I gather the music room is upstairs.
This is a Youngs pub, which I probably last visited, prior to last week, shortly after they acquired it in 1990.
It's a not unattractive looking building from the outside and there's some original features retained - Roman style pillars, woodwork and the bar back - but I'm afraid this pub left a very poor impression on my visit last Sunday afternoon.
It was only 4 o clock approx, but the half dozen or so customers in the pub sitting at the bar seemed noticeably the worse for wear and the frequently incoherent raised voce either attempting to shout or sing created a rather depressing, seedy and down market feel.
There's a rather scruffy and rundown outside drinking area at the back, which reinforces the notion that this pub needs some serious effort and TLC to bring it up to svratch. It's certainly got the potential, given the main road location, to be much better and busier than this.
The Youngs Ordinary - � 2.70p - was reasonable.
I like to think that I write fair minded and well-considered reviews, but there's no escaping the feeling that this is one of the worst pubs I've done in a long time.

Now under NEW management AGAIN... Not sure what happened to the old guy, but possibly illness, hope not for the worst...
The new guy on the bar today was a complete muppet... as far as I tested... They still put on gigs, I was just looking to give them some money to use their room upstairs for band practice as it's near my house... The guy couldn't even give me a price, and wasn't interested in selling it at all... Clever!
They still have gigs apparently, (do check them out, the venue is not the promoters' fault) but I will be more cautious spending my money in the venue, it has to prove itself again...

Slightly run down but friendly enough pub/music venue. they have sentanta sports for those interested. the music venue is called the rock attic it looks a bit dopey in some ways. beer can be off a lot no real ale but some lager. 5/10

This pub is under new management since four months ago, apparently. It's still the same place, but the manager is extremely rock-friendly. I saw a gig there downstairs two days ago and the sound was good, the place was busy, and the vibe friendly. Provision for smokers is good. The funny thing is there was a latin dance night going on upstairs, and blues-rock and metal downstairs, in the same pub on the same night.
Rock-friendly, yes but everyone's welcome, which is the most important bit. They have a 3am license for music which is great. The beer could do with some work I believe, with the "gas system problems" making getting a pint of lager more like getting a pint of Guinness, but hopefully that will be sorted, and anyone who brings rock and metal to Streatham of all places gets my respect.

This pub is great, nice friendly atmosphere, good live music every week, its now selling food and Sunday Dinners.
JP and the barstaff are fun & friendly.
Great for destressing after the journey home from work..

I concurr... I like this place as it reminds me of what pubs used to be like.... SOCIABLE and without pretense.
Not for the Trendy type, but definately entertaining in it's own right. Definately has character with a nice (even though unkempt) gazeebo style garden for the summer.
Could do with a facelift, but live bands n all, hell, more of the old school rocker cum drinkers bar. Like it! Had a good laugh on Guy Fawkes night with a surprise - cple band members (old scool) were part of a very well known 60's band. A great gig performance of some old classics and very "happy" punters.

I guess you can tell when the barmaid raises an eyebrow when asked for a pint of Special, and has to remind herself where the tap for it is, that they don't sell a lot of it.
Having said that, when the bottom of the barrel was reached, the landlord promptly changed it, and pulled though a decent drop of it, asking that I check it first!
The list of live music looks full, so this could be a good alternative to the wetherspoon/parrot etcs.

I agree with shw500.
It's a bit of dump but has something about it, some strange 'character'.
Young's wasn't too bad (not quite as bad as hotrods said) in my opinion.
They've just started doing live music upstairs too. Excellent!

In here early on a Sunday evening. Horrible atmosphere, uninterested bar staff, shocking pint of Special. Cut my losses and ran.

I've been to this place a handful of times over the last couple of years. Can be incredibly quiet and empty. My favourite spot when popping in for a pint after work was on the little table right by the door. I really must go back to see if it's still there.

This place is a dump, but I like it. There's always room for tatty flea bitten boozers. Saw a hilarious fight here involving a bunch of blokes all over 50, stools flying cowboy style. As with most pubs in Streatham there is usually some drunken strumpet propping up the bar, singing with ladders in her tights. As I say - I like the place.

I've drunk here 3 or 4 times and always had to take the beer back, the quality of the bitter is awful to the point of the barstaff arguing with me that it was OK when it was clearly full of sediment. This is a smoky, horrible pub and there are far better ones nearby. Would recommend the Leigham Arms for those interest.
