I had an hour to kill on the wonderful Byres Road and this did nicely as I settled down to a couple of pints of Deuchars - a pint which I had always thought of as unremarkable before now but which went dwon very well on this occasion. A party of Hallowe'en revellers were in place and the welcome friendly. Nothing out of the ordinary but a decent stop off before a meal at the superb Hanoi Bike Cafe up the road

I've always enjoyed this place, but it can become very crowded.

Well-lit, warm and convivial, and very handy before a Chinese over the road.

There's usually a reasonable selection of quaffable real stuff.

A bit pricey with a few cask ales. A much better, and less expensive selection is available at the nearby Tennent's.

There's a well attended quiz night on a Monday night, but it really is for the oldies and the cerebral. Young people should avoid this night.

Usually it's a welcoming pub, but as of March 2012 there are a couple of staff members, who would rather carry on behind the bar, than serve customers.

Unless you're a regular, I think the pub has little to offer. Regulars obviously like the place, and congregate at the top end of the bar. Herre they enjoy the company of the staff. This is to the detriment of other customers, who have to wait patiently for service.

Well kept pint of Rudolphs Reward (Greene King). Also offers Deuchars IPA & Caledonian 80/.

Give it a miss if you'd like a decent pint with service thats half-ways civil. Your best bets to skip it altogether and visit their neighbours up the road at Tennents.

Top pint of McEwans 80/- (2.10)and the other beers were also on form. This is where you deserve a sit down after your standing stint at Tennents...Appears to be more of a Postgrad student kind of hangout.Relaxed but with great beer....Had a deep fried black pudding supper after this-from the chippy down the road.."I left my Art(eries)
in a Sauchiehall Disco....."
NO SUCH ANIMAL AS A TOP PINT OF MCEWANS 80/- SAD INDIVIDUAL

WHAT IS THE NEW OWNER THINKING? IN LESS THAN 4 MONTHS THE PRICES HAVE GONE UP OVER 12%.1.50 FOR A CAN OF COKE !THIS IS A SMALL , WELL RUN (UNTIL NOW) PUB NOT THE HILTON.
ME AND MY FRIENDS WILL NOT BE BACK HERE AND I KNOW MANY REGULARS WHO FEEL THE SAME.TOTAL RIP OFF WHEN YOU CAN GET A BETTER RANGE OF BEERS AND AT FAR BETTER PRICES WITHIN STAGGERING DISTANCE.

Not bad at all. Good(ish) food and some ale. Much better pubs near by if you're only in Glasgow for a night. PS They can show two football matches at once which is definitely a bonus.

This was my dad's local when he lectured at Glasgow Uni...I can remember sitting outside with a bag of crisps and a bottle of coke...now I am old enough to go in...and it has to be said I can fully appreciate why the old man liked this place...
