Decent pub close to Colchester North station. Had a reasonable range of Greene King beers. Worth a visit if in the area. Has a pool table and a beer garden at the back.

I visited here a few months back when i took a game in at Colchester United's ground.

Saturday lunchtime when i came in and football was just about to start. I had a decent few pints from the hand pumps and a very ncie and reasoably cheap Steak lunch.

With a game on the box and Col U fans in before there match the place was pretty busy and it created a nice atmosphere.

All in all a good expierence.

You wouldn't be a Hartlepool fan by any chance?

Went in here when my team, Hartlepool, were playing Col-U earlier this season. Before the game it was fairly quiet but afterwards there was a lot of people in watching the live TV match.

Lager was really cheap, as was the food. Not sure it would be a place I would want to go often as it lacked a bit of life, but did the job at the time.

Oh there was a very strange old bloke who directed us there from the station and was a home fan. This bloke then hovered around like a bad smell and we had to be very blunt to get rid of him. Wierdo seemed to be trying to pull one of the lads!

Quite nice now after the refurb. I went in after work on a weekday afternoon and there was a good mix of office types, workmen and general drinkers. 3 real ales on tap (IPA and Abbot, being a GK pub, and Speckled Hen). I had the Speckled Hen which was very pleasant. Recommended as a stop-off on the way to or from the station.

Used to be a little bit old-man-and-dog, look-at-you-when-you-walk-in, if you know what I mean. Looking forward to seeing what it's like after a refurb.

Not bad for a pitstop on the way to station from town.

quite a cool pub, pool table has balls on it and darts are available for the dart board. there is a cheeky geordie chappy usually sat on a barstool to talk to if you are bored.
