Went into this pub for a quiet half and was directed to the Musician for a rock and roll career - don't go in wearing bright clothes.

This pub never seems to change, but that's no bad thing. Solid Everards pub with small rooms and intimate corners. The full range of Everards Beers on offer (Tiger, Beacon, Original, Sunchaser and the monthly special Blue Boar). Also had Joseph Holt IPA from Manchester. Cider was Symonds Founders reserve. Food menu looked good, but we didnt eat here so cant really comment. Families welcome, and the kids board games always a nice touch. Central for most Leicester attractions including Cathedral area and all the Richard III stuff.

Came back again as i remember the food was good on my last couple of visits.
Food menu had shrunk to burgers or sharing plates which was disapointing. I had a chicken burger, it was ok, not good just ok.
Beer was Castle Rock - Carl Froch £3.60 which was fine.

After a brief stop in the awful Synergy bar (formerly a real ale pub called the Longstop), we moved onto the Globe. This is another Everard's pub in a popular central location. Beacon, Sunchaser, Tiger & Original were the ales. Guests were Titanic Capt Smiths & Banks & Taylor Golden Fox. They also had Westons Family Reserve as a real cider. A second real cider was off. We sat in the cramped, but cosy front bar. There were a few other rooms to choose from. CAMRA members get 30p off per pint. There are many better pubs in Leicester. But this is still a good pub.

Today, the idiot who almost brought this pub down has been convicted. Bringing his mother with him to the court! Its in the media today.
For a while, this fine pub had to close.
His comments were fictitious rubbish - but showed how many can be easily duped.
Particularly, when our forces are erroneously brought into a sad scheme...

I'd rather a landlord refused admission to anyone who behaved badly, irrespective of whether they were lawyers, soldiers, doctors, sailors, punks, sportsmen, airmen, nurses, accountants, MPs or any other description.
If the forces people were acting antisocially, or already drunk, then well done landlord, and good luck to you.
From the many favourable reviews it sounds like you don't need it though.

If reports are true that this Pub refuses to serve our brave servicemen, I hope the place catches fire and burns down and the owners are left penniless.

Good pub. Friendly staff and punters, had a good conversation here. Good décor. Enjoyed the Guest beers and the food was good.

Hugh & staff have moved on to The Longstop on Church Gate. Temporary custodianship at the moment. Had three guest ales on when I checked in: one from Bath, a Brunswick and a Moorhouse. Staff friendly as ever. Relaxed and friendly vibe from the clientele.

Lovely old building with a central bar and lots of drinking areas. Full range of Everards beers plus a guest (from Bath Ales this time). Good quality and very friendly service. Worth a visit when in the centre of town.

Rightly packed out every Friday and Saturday evening. Quieter during the week but still lively.

Lovely old building, formerly a coaching in and (I believe) the oldest pub in Leicester.
I attended the recent Scottish beer festival here (marked as the 'first annual' I noticed) and was thoroughly impressed.
Licensee Hugh had done a great job sourcing some excellent ales (including some real rarities this far south of the border) and had them all set up on a stillage of his own creation.
Condition was excellent for the most part, with the only exception being a handful of beers which had been supplied unfined and which sadly had not dropped - I'm not sure I would concur with the best kept in Leicester comment, but certainly better than a couple of the more noted ale houses in the city centre.
The only real niggle on this visit was the pricing - alas, Everards had felt the need to slap their own mark-up on the beers supplied by a third party beer agency, which had already been sourced by the licensee - a practice which I do not condone.
Sadly this is not a place I tend to frequent due solely to the Everards pricing policy - the "No Price Increase On Beer Here" declaration in the Leicester Drinker is all well and good, but doesn't really aid the cause when the prices are already markedly higher than the other key ale hostelries in the city centre.

Excellent pub in a lovely old building. Landlord is a friendly chap. Real ales are the best kept in Leicester.

I've already commented on this pub ,but it's worth another post. Went in there last weekend and had some superb Everard's Pitch Black stout. Who in their right mind would drink Guinness when this is on offer ? Great city centre pub.

Great pub with Everard's ales kept in tip-top condition. Friendly welcome and good, proper pub crowd - where all are welcome. Serves decent food at sensible prices. Well worth a visit.

Popped in on Saturday evening - my friends and I were dithering over which beer to have so the barman promptly offered us a taster. Only had a half because we had been to the beer festival but the ale was in good nick and the atmosphere was good (save for the piped music - why oh why do pubs with sufficient atmosphere persist with this stuff?).
I look forward to coming back when i have more time and less ale in my belly already.

An excellent city centre pub. It's been mucked about with over the years but still retains an old pub feel to it. Still has gas lamps on the walls which are an interesting feature. Excellent priced Tiger bitter as well.

A very nice City Center pub, good food plus full range of Everards beers and three guests. Clean , smart and inviting . Unusual for a town pub.

On a recent Friday night the place was busy. Everards Original & Pitch Black very good. A few guests also available. Attentive, chatty & efficient staff. Food 12-5.

Have heard its been taken on by those running the Star & Garter in Wigston. If so will improve and be worth a visit still.

One of the best pubs in Leicester's city centre. The globe has always been one of my favourites. It does seem to be alot quieter recently, possibly due to the increase in prices. Lets hope the place dosent change to much now that Janet has gone!

Used to visit the Globe when living in Leicester a couple of years ago. A great traditional town pub owned by Everards and still serving a great pint. Long may it remain unchanged.

Nice, large, multi-sectioned, original pub with mix of dark wood, red brick, & stone-slabbed floors, equal cross-mix of clientele. Snug to right of entrance, narrow area to the front/left of large central bar, note the round stained glass lead-light window depicting �victory� between the right and rear bar sections. Everards Tiger, Beacon, Sunchaser, Janet�s Gaffers Gold, Burton Bridge Sovereign, Fullers Chiswick(?). Rather irritating that they felt the need to suggest it �illegal� for us to have marker coins on the table for our friendly game of b�strd brag, even if they did give us a box of matches to replace.

Best city center pub we have been in in years.
Full range of Everards beers plus guest,all in good condition.
Even the wife liked the beer. Will be coming back to this one again soon!
Food looked good but had already eaten so did not try, maybe next visit.

The best pub in Leicester. Friendly staff and clientele. Great beer with fab guest ales. You won't find a better or safer pub in the city centre.

Interior has been done up to a better standard now, and had a decent pint of Tiger to boot. A big improvement and worth a visit if in the town centre needing to kill half an hour.

A nice pub. But that's all now. It used to be a really great pub, doing brilliant pub food and a good place for a lazy sunday lunch and afternoon.
Now the food is below average (various chefs left I think) and the bar staff change far more often than they use to. Still the same random mix of "alternative" folk and suits on a friday night, everyone gets along fine with a nice atmosphere.
Haven't been back there for a while though. A good pub but used to be a lot better.

A great pub and all the comments are true except Quinno's he must have been having a bad day (or I may have been the wierdo :-) It has been done up and although the decor is somewhat minimal. I LOVE IT and The Great BEER! An eclectic mix of Old Granny shoppers, Suits, and Hippy Wierdos ;-)Oh! Great food too. (no I'm not employed by Richard Everard.)

This is where I go if in Leicester I want a decent pint and decent honest good value food. The staff are always friendly and the clientele eclectic, where else can you sit next to two transvestites on a shopping spree chatting to 2 bewildered visitors from Nottingham.

This is one of the best pubs in leicester i go in the globe almost every week, and the place is always welcoming, the staff are great, the real ale is good, what more can you ask?

The Globe's a decent traditional boozer that seems undecided about whether it's refrubishing or not. Still, it has a nice mix of clientele, and I've always found the staff to be friendly, heavily tattooed and pierced. Ales are well kept, and often have a couple of random guest ales.

Times change as has the Globe. I went in a while back and it has changed here but still has some element of what it used to be when I was there in my teens - anything goes uber cool of alternative life in Liecester.
Back then it was the centre of goth, rock, alternative and stude with a mix of old time hells angels, hardened drinkers as well as the occaisonal townie or business suit. It still seems to accept this ecclectic mix without a raised eyebrow in sight.
Will always have a fond place in my heart, back in the early 90s I would have said it was the best pub ever.
Still on my list of places i have to visit when I go back to Leics.

This place is a mess. The seats have chunks missing and it needs painting something else from that nasty vomit yellow colour. A weirdo in the corner kept staring at us too. urgh.
The Everards beer is fine as you'd expect, but as a drinking experience this place sucks, especially with so many other decent ale houses nearby like the Criterion or the Vaults.
Don't go here until a decent landlord does the place up.

the globe is an amazing pub and has got to be my favourite place to go for a drink.the staff are great,the beers are great,the fellow drinkers are great and the atmosphere is amazing.i am there atleast once a week,usually on a friday nite which in my opinion is the best nite for the globe.its great to sit upstairs with a pint play pool and listen to good music such as led zeppelin,therapy,white zombie,etc.i recommend that you give it a try!!!

I think it lost some atmosphere when it was refurbed a few years back - where did the murals go? Also less rock than it used to be. Too clean and bright for my tastes. Was one of my favourite teenage drinking haunts.

Nice pub. Great upstairs room and beer is kept well. Standard everards selection with one guest. Food is mouth watering and portions are ample. Recent redecoration has kept many of the old features such as tile floor and gas lighting along with introducing new features including an increased seating area. Central location near Leicester's main shopping area.

One of Leicester's few ale pubs, the Everard's range is decent and the food is above average. Not too expensive either. If only it was open till 1.30 am on weekdays and 2 at weekends like the Lansdowne on London Road...Seems to be fighting off the competition from the bland chain pubs fairly well.

Everard's Leicester city centre 'flagship' pub. Large, three storey, street-corner establishment. Victorian in origin, I think. Roomy partitioned interior. Comfy and basic-traditional. Beers in very good condition with a few guests as well as the full Everards range. Serves good pub grub. Always worth a visit.

This is one of the few last remaining real pubs in leicester. It has still got some old features left such as gas lighting, The bar, some of the flooring is still the same from years ago. It has the full range of Quality everards beer and a selected range of guest beers. Introducing the range of beers from the brunswick in derby in the new year. Good food, good people, good surroundings, great beer, To sum up The Globe it is a real pub for real people who want to get away from the chain pubs and talk without having to listen to loud music all the time. Just relax and enjoy yourself.

I was in Leicester with my teenage son last week, the main reason being an art exhibition at Nottingham Castle, and when I insisted on visiting a "real" English pub my sister and brother-in-law promptly took me to "The Globe". It was great: the centric location, the atmosphere, the interiors, the crowd, the staff - and the lovely landlord, who put up with this nutty Swedish-Mexican woman (myself) who insisted on asking for kidney pie or pork pie, because that's what I've seen them eat in British tv series (yes,
laugh by all means). Eventually he convinced me that it wasn't the season for pork pies (I think) but that everything on the menu was "pub grub" and that I should try his chicken pie with peas-something-or-another, and it was delicious! He even took the time to fill me in on the history of the place and to show me old photographs on the walls. Maybe he sensed that I was a "History freak"... A perfect pub and a perfect gentleman! And since I don't have anything to compare it with I'll just give it a full score of 10.
Oh, but from reading other comments I get the impression I missed something by not visiting the upper floor. Next time for sure...

Have not been to this pub for about 25 years ( as i dont live in leicester any more ).I really use to enjoy it on a friday night.I dont know if its changed much , but it use to be very a student , punky type of pub back then.

As near perfect as a pub in Leicester city centre can be. Definitely the best real ale in Leicester, good selection of wine, ditto Malts. Good pub nosh. And a good mixed bag of clientele, A PROPER PUB. Hint: Only drink Stella when you're on holiday, the English version is EVIL.

Good range of good ales, clientele is fine for the most part (the odd group of oafs wander in occasionally but don't stay long). A great place to watch the world go by.
Re Andrew's comment above: Hugh does indeed keep good beer, but I wouldn't say that the quality (if that is the right word) of the Stella has much to do with him - modern Stella is 'brewed' in some huge chemical plant up North somewhere, filled with preservatives (hence the headache) and therefore tastes the same wherever you go - rotten.

About the last proper pub left in the city center with some interesting features, like gas lighting (tall people should watch their hair!) It was refurbed a couple of years ago and dispte everones fears they did a very good job at keeping the character. Hugh keeps an exelent beer. (the best Stella in leicester, imho) There seems to be no stereotypical customer. Everyone from punks to solicitors drink there. Good food too.
