user reviews of Studio 6, South Bank

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The beers are little on the expensive side, and the bar staff don't exactly go out of their way to serve the patrons in a 'first come, first served' order, but other than that it's not a bad place, and at least feels like less of a tourist trap than other bars and pubs in and around the South Bank.

I'm glad I hadn't read the reviews on here before I went to Studio 6 the other night because I may well have not gone, and to be honest, I had a good night there, in spite of the fact that my wife got a bit too drunk and a bit too loud. The place has been decorated since the photo above was taken, so it now has a nice feel to the place, but sitting outside in the sunshine and the river just yards away was really pleasant. You could have almost forgotten you were still in London. The beer was good if not a little on the pricey side and yes the staff dont speak English as a first Language but there are lots of pubs in London like this, the service could be more slick. I didnt eat there, but the food did look very good and just across the way is a fantastic looking creperie, which is well worth a visit as you stagger home.

Am not sure if the staff has changed, as I went in November and the staff were v nice, helpful and quick. Great strawberry beer aswell :)

This place has very poor bar service - slow & unfriendly. Also, when I received a very flat pint of lager (after having received 2 nice, frothy ones) I asked if they could change it. The barmaid was surly & unsympathetic, insisting that the flat pint was indeed frothy & fizzy. She then stirred the pint with a knife to show that it was 'fizzy'. I was not impressed. She eventually changed the pint for another brand, after much fuss. They have no concept of keeping paying customers happy. Also, the stark interior & lack of soft furnishings make for poor acoustics, making it hard to hear your friends on the other side of the table. Not recommended.

I have eaten at this place several times for many reasons...the main being it is located close to work. The customer service is the worst that I personally have experienced since being in London this past year. The servers barely speak english and understand you. This is if they come to serve you. I have found the food to be quite good but it can not be backed up by good management or servers. The management is always right and the customer always wrong. It is a sad thing since the food is good. As a woman I am personally offended when the wait staff ignore me, not once looking or directing a question towards me, especially when I was paying the bill, and then returned it to be signed by male companion. The last time there we were refused service because the weather had been rainy and told it was dangerous to eat outside. I believe this place thrives on location alone, not by customer loyalty or customer service. P.S. it didn't rain the rest of the afternoon and with 12 people in our group they lost alot of revenue. Unheard of from a business persspective.

Went in search of a good roast last Sunday - a thing becoming ever more elusive in London - and found this place. It was a welcome change from the dozens of chain pubs of the Yates/Weatherspoons variety that we passed all along the South Bank from London Bridge, offering pre-cooked slop at bargain prices.

My friend and I both opted for the classic roast lamb with all the trimmings (although other options on the menu looked very tasty as they wafted past our table) and it was delicious. The service wasn't the most efficient in the world, but friendly all the same. Took a while to get our bill too, but to be honest after a lovely bottle of Montepulciano and two cracking desserts we didn't care! All this for around 20 each - absolute bargain.

Quite possibly the worst bar service in London.

Avoid like the plague

The service is horrendously slow, but here's a handy tip for summer. Got to the Mulberry Bush across the road, where the bar staff are super-efficient and friendly, in contrast to those at Studio 6. They will happily serve you a beer in a plastic glass to take back across to Gabriels' Wharf.

Food is good actually (true that bar service is slow and house white is not very nice) but not a bad place all in all, better for the outside seating. It doesn't look quite as ugly as this picture either. Maybe they fixed it up since then.

This is a good summer pub, if you manage to get an outside seat and convince someone else to go to the bar for you all night. Otherwise, you'll be disappointed by the lack of seating from 6pm onwards, and spend most of your night waiting for the unbelievably slow bar staff to get round to you. Even at a ratio of 3 customers to every barperson, it can take a good 20 minutes to get served. Also, the gents' toilets are pokey and grubby.
Finding somewhere else is recommended.
[NB I have not experienced the food.]

A great rare place to sit outside for drinks where you don't get choked by traffic fumes.

Only eaten there when quiet - but still tasty unpretentious food and a decent wine list to go with it. Reasonably priced and good portion size. Service nothing special, but nothing terrible either. True there can be queues to eat - testimony to the place's popularity?

It's hard to believe Gabriel's Wharf is in London at all at times - defo more of a V&A Waterfront feel than Soho. Good venue for meeting people and getting a cold drink, not pouting and posing.

A rather nasty place to get fleeced.

If you like drinking expensive, short measure drinks in plastic glases from rude bar staff then this is the place for you.

My companion, last night, has been to eat a couple of times and says the food service can be very slow. I heard an eater, last night, complain that they had been waiting an hour for a main course.

If you want to drink your much better off going to the National Film Theatre Bar 3mins walk up river. If you want to eat, a range of well priced restaurants have recently opened under the Royal Festival Hall or go to the Gourmet Pizza nearer the river.

Certainly a more restauranty vibe to this place. Still a fairly good bar.

Nice food, if a bit expensive - and would be nice to be able to eat outside.
Often big queues for food too, which is bad if hungry.
Service in the bar is good. Nice outside bit for sunny weather.

It's more like a cafe that sells beer.

Still, the Stella was quite nice and very cold.

Should be more places like this. I think.
