Nice chatty staff, mixed group of customers. Good selection of drinks with an emphasis on local. Reasonably priced food. Traditional premises

Been renovated outside but still squalid inside. Ale was good but locals stare when you go in. Strong smell of odd tobacco!

Good local ale and ciders. Good, reasonably priced food all day. Comfortable but no pool table

Wandered around the town on a wet dreary day and came across this one.Very good food and ale with friendly locals. Unusual to get all three in small towns sometimes! Quite a bit of building renovation going on including an overhaul of the front.

The service was exceptionally slow on carnival night when i visited, but the place wasn't busy at all! The ales available included Wickwar BOB and Moor Revival which was absolutely superb, 7/10

Been painted in and out and now called the Swan Inn. Pool room being changed into dining area. Reverting back to how it was when I was at school and used to eat there with my parents. food seems good and well priced.

Now called The Swan and very good it is too.
Spied it in the GBG (Good Beer Guide) and thought that I would give it a try.
Well dressed and approachable landlord served a delicious pint of Matthews Bob Wall Bitter at 4.2%.
I then had a pint of Cheddar Ales Potholer at 4.3%. Both pints served at a good temperature and very tasty.
Food was excellent too. We both had Shepherds pie.
The only niggle was the state of the toilets, could have done with a few quid spent to tidy them up.
Worth a visit.

I agree Saxon, good cask ale, guest was Brassknocker 3.8%. Friendly staff.

The town of Shepton Mallet itself seems to be struggling to stay alive as do the pubs. We find a pair of shops at the bottom of Town St hill converted into The Stumbles Inn. A basic boozer where Landlord Ian is doing his best to create an ambient pub for the town. Separate room with Pool table. Good plates of food at down to earth prices. 2 real ales: Matthews Bob Well 4.2%, plus a Guest which today was Box Steam Rev Audry 3.8%. Both sampled and in excellent condition. We were very welcome in this friendly pub and recommend you give it a try.

Plenty of choice for ale drinkers with a variety all the time.

The food is good with plenty of choice and fresh too! Good venue for either drink or a coffee with friends. I see the toilets are about to be revamped completely. I am a student and like to meet my friends here before going to Bristol etc

Yes I agree with Matt above, the staff were very friendly and place is better than when I went in on my 18 birthday crawl 3 years ago. The misfits seem to have been shown the door and a reasonable crowd were there so didn't feel intimidated like in some of the pubs we went to this weekend. Didn't see a dog though Matt!

I go there everyday. 10 pints in a couple of hours to me is good service. Cant beat a few vodkas and cokes. Staff are fit (except from the bloke with the grey hair) they got Tripod the dog who wails (thought it was an electric screwdriver once) and the atmosphere is great, especially on the weekends (3/10 for totty tho)

A small pub with good staff in the town centre. It seems to be busy on particularly on Fridays and quite busy on Saturdays. For the rest of the time it seems to have a steady locals trade. Was a very popular pub once but went downhill though the new landlord who came last month? seems to be making a difference by getting rid of nuisance customers and bytidying the place up. Worth a visit. Shame there is no cask ales there.
