Still one of your better bets for ale in Leek. Had the monk brew this time.

A reasonably refurbished town pub selling Joules ales. Had a mix of hen party and old farmers talking about bullocks on my visit. The Joules IPA I had was the best pint I had in Leek.

Not a bad pub, located in the town centre, relatively newly refurbished with friendly staff. Food could be a bit better but wasn't too bad, not sure whether I'd eat there again in the near future but definately a decent stop for a drink. A good place to call in on a pub crawl, nice tidy place with friendly staff.

was in leek and popped in the The Cock it was great, the publicans wife was most helpful, sujesting a local hotel/ b & b which was also very nice and in the town centre, the food at the cock was exellent and serve in an informal setting, a great selction of beers and a friendly feel about the place. the lisencee was a plump jolly sort of chap with a humerus way and infeccous laugh The pub has a great and interesting interea
that looked like it had been refurbished in traditional way,...all in all very nice, and went back next day as well

Apparently still waiting for thr Joules Brewery to get up and running and supplying their beer, but the place is covered in Joules breweriana, although the very traditional old-style frontage belies a much more modern interior than one might have hoped. Good-ish beer range, including an excellent Pendle Witches Brew. Toilets are a problem for the disabled, as they are up several steps. The infirm gentlemen we saw struggling to make it back down the steps would vouch for that...

This place has obviously changed drastically again since the last review [2 1/2 years back]. Now taken over by new micro brewery Joules [reviving the name of the pub's original brewery] and given a serious 'traditional pub' makeover. Lots of fuittings and furnishings from the old Joules brewery. When I was there a few days ago, the very friendly barman explained that the new Joules Brewery isn't quite up-and-running yet, so I'll have wait to see what their ale is like; in the meantime, always at least three other real ales, no 'smooth' though if that's what you're after. I arrived just as a disappointed customer was leaving having been unable to get a pint of the aforementioned chemical soup. Bad news for her, great news for me.

This pub was once a good town centre pub but has acquired a bad reputation for lager swilling loutish clientele. I would recomend you stay well away unless you are 'local' and a Stoke fan. If in Leek go elsewhere for a freindly pint.

this place has changed quite alot in recent months, the landlord has has updated the decor"at his own expense"and turned it into a more modern engine rm look,i think past tenants have scarred the cock and made it difficult 4 the present 1 2 get the old cock back, but not 4 the want of trying.I think old customers of the cock would b pleasantly surprised at the new look cock

Yeah all previous comments are right really. Not a very friendly place by all accounts. But hey if you go out drinking in Leek you've got to expect a 'local' atmosphere!!

Having been a previous licensee at this pub all comments are right when they say everyone knows everyone elses business. Roumours are spread within a day and back at the pub like chinese whispers(bits added on & taken away) The whole town has a great circuit to drink in and a friday & saturday night the cock inn is where everyone starts.

Im not from leek i live in machester, my mum etc live there.

i dont really know what to say about the pubs in leek, they are wierd.

Everyone knows everyone elses business and if your new they stare at you and discuss who you are! not very comfortable.

this pub is ok its a bit trampy (as most of leek pubs are) the toilets are ok at least they are indoors! there is a bar person who is exactly pleasent but other than that evryone seems friendly enough - sometimes overly friendly.

plenty of farmer/country boys and Amos Lookalikes!

very different world - like going back in time when you go to leek! :-)
