Fairly pleasant locals pub with one large bar and what seemed like a smaller room at the rear to one side. There is a nice garden at the same side. The landlord appears to be Northern Irish. 4 ales were on - Weltons English Pride, Adnams Bitter, Timothy Taylor Golden Best & Twickenham Summer Sun. I tried the Weltons, which wasn't up to much. European Championship football was being shown on the TV. Makes a change from some of the local Fullers pub and I thought the ale range was similar to the nearby Riflemans. But for the best selection, head to the Sussex Arms.

Large and traditional pub not far from Twickenham Green. A nice range of beers on - Ringwood 3.60 a pint - and also a good food menu (not tried). Garden is very pleasant.

Great pub surprisingly close to The Rifleman and also, conveniently, to Strawberry Hill station. Friendly staff who know their beers and of course are also knowledgeable about other local pubs - but without being over-competitive. Plenty of places to sit and enjoy one or more of the selection of (3) real ales on offer. Gents' toilet is under-lit when there's no natural light through the windows; not sure why!

Popped in to see the new look very smart but the prices are very expensive. A pint of ESB was £4.40 we did question this but were told that "these are the prices these days".We will not tolerate these prices and will not return same round in the price Albert 80p less I don't know how they can justify this go there or the lovely sussex

Didn't try the food but have heard good things. As a pub it's fine. Staff are attentive and fun. Manager mixes with the clientele and handles the less sober drinkers well. A great local but not worth travelling from the Shetlands

In here yesterday (Sunday) afternoon and unlike The Rifleman there are over a dozen punters in with a couple dining.
A large plasma screen was showing Golf till someone turned up who wanted the Tennis on.
They have 5 hand pulls and I had a very nice pint of Twickenham Sundancer for £3.40 from a very chearful barman.

I really like this pub - large, attractive garden and plenty of drinking room inside... each time I visit (usually weekedn afternoons) I'm always surprised that it's not busier, but if that means I don't have to queue for a pint, so be it

I agree with many of the opinions on here that Gavin and his staff have indeed turned things around and the pub is now back up to speed and similar to that of 10-15 years ago!!!

Under Gavin and his staff, this pub is regaining ground as a great place for real ale drinkers, now confirmed by a good beer festival this weekend: an interesting range in excellent condition served in rotation across 7 pumps. A whole lamb roast yesterday looked and smelled tempting. Well done - I hope that it has been a big suceess.

Situated just a bit further down from the Prince Albert, on which I have been posted, the Prince Of Wales still bears outside the round green stag sign reminding us that it was a former Watney Combe Reid pub.
A narrowish area in front of the bar counter is flanked by two distinct areas on either side. The public bar area on the right has some rugby memorabilia and a largish TV screen. On the left is a more comfortable saloon bar area which is also bare boarded, but has a characterful fireplace with some horse brasses and, further down, a seating area with burgundy painted walls and some old brewery mirrors, including Wethereds, Watneys, Double Diamond etc.
Further behind this area, unusually, is a restaurant - "Le Petit Prince" - specialising in, believe it or not, French dishes. At the side of the pub is a pleasant garden - looking noticeably well-tended compared with what I remember from earlier visits.
On the real ale front, the pub is a keen supporter of the local Twickenham Brewery and was offering Original - � 2.90p - and Sundancer on my recent visit. The Original was in excellent condition. The other two pumps were serving Tribute and Doom Bar. A further bank of 4 pumps were not in use - I gather they're used during the pub's beer festivals. The pub has won local CAMRA branch awards and is a GBG regular.
The pub interior felt a bit bright and modern for my liking - the CAMRA Good Beer Guide description of it as "unspoilt" is rather off beam - but, with this pub being the unofficial Twickenham Brewery tap, you may think it's worth calling in to sample their beers.

Decent pint in comfortable neighbourhood pub, the kind that is fast disappearing; either they are closed down or repostioning themselves as overpriced mediorce restaurants. Not a lot of folk the night I was in but have seen a few folk in there oftentimes passing.

Just had Sunday lunch at the POW, I am disapointed to say that it was truly horid, The pint of sundancer was really good though.

Do you enjoy a good pint of real ale? Do you look forward to a convivial atmosphere? Would you like both for a reasonable price? If the answer is yes then stop messing around at other pubs. Get down to the Prince of wales as soon as possible. This is the only pub in Twickenham where EVERYBODY is made welcome annd treated as a friend. The new manager is possibly the greatest thing that has happened to this pub in the last decade. You can enjoy a good chat and an excellent pint of "Naked Lady", from the Twickenham Brewery, for a mere �2.90.
Tell you what, If you're down there on a Fridatyor Sunday evening, ask for me by name, and I'll stand you a pint. GET IN THE QUEUE LADS.

Love this place. Two Twickenham beers (it's the unofficial Brewery Tap - though it's not the nearest pub) decent grub and a great plasma TV. And the dark haired barmaid - is that Jacky? - is friendly and professional; just how a barmaid should be. Decor's a bit barren, and there's been surprisingly few customers a few times I've visited, but it's one of my faves in the area. A lot friendlier and more personable than the Blucher or the Albert

This is my favourite pub. It has good decor, a nice cosy fire, excellent beer and wine and is friendly and peaceful.
However, the food is a laugh. A French chef wanders about waiting and waiting for custom. Feeling sorry for him I gave it a try and was quite surprised how little he knows about quality cooking.
Love the pub but at this time, needs a new chef with proper simple menu and not a naff attempt at French gastro cuisine.

Best acoustic night in the land. Also the Winter Cheer from Twickenham Fine Ales is one of their best yet.

A great pub. Jackie we know you run the place. If you don't know who Jackie is you've never stepped in the door. The most welcoming person behind the bar always got time for a chat.

Have used the POW a couple of times since seeing it's review here.
Has all the makings of a fine Pub. Reasonable decore, Good Ales, friendly customers, non intrusive TV and Juke Box BUT none of this matters if the Beer isn�t in good condition � and mine haven�t been.
I accept that my visits have coincided with humid clammy weather, making beer keeping that much more difficult, and looking around I noticed no one else was drinking real Ale, but I left there and went immediately to the Adelaide in Teddington, where I found the Beer (as always) in perfect condition.
I do hope the Landlady can sort the Cellar out as the Adelaide (for all it's excellent Beer) is a bit 'Libraryesque' and The POW seems to have a bit of life about it.

One of the premier pubs in the area. The ale is very well kept and a good range always seems to be on offer (especially during the mini beer festivals held there occasionally). The food's of a very high standard and is definitely worth trying. It's got a comfy feel and it doesn't particularly come over as a local's pub, which I suspect it actually is. The sports screens are OK and not overly intrusive. I find the dictionary under one of the tables in the bar very useful when I'm doing the crossword in there, and the garden's really attractive as well. All in all the place scores highly in every important category. The previous postings suggest that the landlord has recently left. Here's hoping the whoever takes over carries on running it in the same way and takes care to preserve a real gem of a place in an area, which it should be said, already has a pretty good choice of decent boozers.

Beer quality is still good, lets hope the new manager keeps the pub as one of the best in the Richmond and Hounslow(CAMRA)area.

Have been visiting weekly for the last 2/3 months - every week. Thursday is quiz night! Excelllent beer & fun to boot. have even been quiz Mc a couple of times. A friendly relaxed pub, with excellent food now from the French chef.

Just been at the Prince's stab at local beer festival-type event (hosted inside the pub); beer: good choice on offer from variety of locations. Not a bad pint among them though never got to try a particular tipple because the barrel before it wasn't being drunk fast enough! Friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere, even considering the revelries. Not much evidence of more family-friendly attitude of other local brewer-outlets but that doesn't detract from the atmosphere. Bring your own entertainment if you don't like what's on the telly!

A fairly ordinary no frills pub but serving good beer. The local Twickenham Spring Ale and Sundowner plus Cornish St Austell Tribute and Sharps Doombar on today. One room with a central horseshoe bar, TV on for the ubiquitous rugby. Traditional table and chair seating plus a couple of Chesterfield type sofas, and a fireplace adorned with horse brasses which together with the pub mirrors add a bit of a retro feel to this 40 something correspondent.

This is now the best pub in the area by a country mile. Great beers and fantastic food.

A new discovery and a very welcome one. A good atmosphere and friendly landlord. Beer was in tip-top condition on my visit with some unusual ones (from Purity and Pot Belly breweries) as well as some more usual suspects as part of the beer festival. Usually there are 4 beers with a couple from the local Twickenham brewery. A delightful garden as well.

The Prince of Wales has a beer festival this weekend, and appears to include over 15 local ales from all over the country. This pub is such a friendly place, and the new chef is pretty spot on, real pub food that tastes great and doesnt cost the earth. This place is worth a go

wellcome to Goerge & Liz (The new mangers of the PoW ) and what a great job they are doing. the Beer Is very good, the Sunday roast is brilliant . This has become a very nice pub to drink in. can't wait for the summer, just to see what they have planned for the garden.

Visited on a Thursday and seemingly not a popular pub. Apparently landlord is looking to up its ante. Anyway aside from me and my mate being very loud in a quiet pub it was an enjoyable experience. Apparently skipster who 'is' Twickenham Fine Ales was in (I was part of the 2 large drinker set BTW).
Anyway the Twickenham Strong and Dark was a delicious 5.2% Mild (My view I could be wrong about the Mild bit) and their Twickenham Crane Sunchaser was very interesting taste. The St Austell Tribute was quaffable.
Well worth a visit especially if you like drinking ale.

A charming pub ....good beers. Nicely furnished. Very little lunchtime custom because they do not serve food. Run on a shoestring this place.....Hours to suit themselves. Lovely place lacks imaginative management.....lovely gardens.

Only live 1 min away from this and wasn't impressed at all on last visit a year ago compared to a lovely few times I came about 5 or 6 years ago. However, the reviews have been so good I'll back soon! Er, like tomorrow!

Best pub garden in Twickenham and always features a guest ale which they really look after. Even when the football is on this pub is still nice.

it is a lovely pub,good atmosphere nice staff,great garden which is so good for the kids.the landlord says they are going to start quiz nights on tuesdays,which will gee things up a bit more.the real ales are very well looked after and they serve all drinks in chilled glasses,which is really cool.

Bombardier is OKish but dull. Tribute is better but the ales brewed at the local Twickenham Brewery are the real tasty ones and the pub IS in the 2006 Good Pub Guide. Has a good garden and shows SKY sports on a large screen but very little else happening with no food, quiz, live music or other entertainment. Doesn't stick to any particular opening hours which might piss some people off. An vast improvement on a year ago though.

I've become very fond of this boozer in recent weeks. Twickenham Fine Ales are splendid and well kept. Mick, who is running the place at the moment is also a top bloke and very welcoming.
Walled garden fantastic in the summer.

It has a wonderful garden, enclosed and shielded from the road, with high plants and flowers so you can hide from other people if you want. It's very unusual for a pub garden and an excellent feature.
Inside it's a bit bare with beechwood floors. So nice to see the collection of Vettriano prints on the walls - jolly tasteful.
The only real ales are from the Twickenham brewery. They're all good, but I'd quite like to see one mainstream beer like London Pride or Youngs Ordinary.
The pub seems to be run on a shoestring. Usually just one barman on the Friday evenings I've visited. It's not so busy that it matters (only about a dozen customers) but he was in a flat panic when the low-budget till locked and he spent the evening on the phone to the boss asking for help.
Overall, given the garden, the beer and the fact that it's not busy (and therefore not smoky) I'd say this was quite a good pub to visit.

The landlord tells me their Twickenham beer's the best available but then I suppose he would. Think it's cos the boss of Crane brewery frequents the place or something but it was indeed very tasty and well kept. Nicely done up, real log fire with plenty of sofas, big garden, friendly landlord and nicely local to the green without having to trapse into town. Was empty when we went in but it was a Monday night so that's hardly surprising. Would be a good pub if it had a few more punters.

In the Good beer Guide 2006. Sells a good pint of Twickenham Original. Food all day and a good wine selection. Nice garden in the summer. Large TV for sport.

Freshly refurbished and now with leather sofas and flat screens. The welcome is still warm and the food (when the kitchen is finally finshed) will no doubt be very good. Nice wooden floor caused a falling out with one of hte locals who now goes round the corner..

this pub always has a nice atmosphere i go in there alot. it is a nice and cosy pub. and the bar staff are always plesent. and the locals are friendly.
