user reviews of the Sun, Hounslow

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

First impressions are a very nicely decorated pub with a lot of space and a good layout. Artistic statues, modern colour combining with older features like wooden panelling and various quotes written on the walls. Only real ale available is London Pride but it is a good pint. Only downside for me wad the music videos on the tv screens but I guess that's a personal thing.

My worst experience in a pub or anywhere for that matter. When I walked in (around 7.45pm) the 3 girls behind the counter were already having a drink. They were rude, sarcastic and probably racist (I say probably because I don't like to play that card as I don't see colour in people) and I have never had such a bad experience anywhere in the world. The management should take care when hiring people. When you hire dumb people as these girls you cannot expect much as they think everyone else is as stupid as they are. I hope they felt very clever tonight.

I have used The Sun for years, mainly for their lovely Thai food. Today was the first time I went and had their Sunday lunch that they serve from 12.30 until 4pm what EXCEPTIONAL value for money. Choice of chicken, beef or pork served with roast potatoes, parsnip, 2 Yorkshire puddings and help yourself to cabbage, carrots, boiled potatoes, peas and swede from the hot plate. You could tell immediately all the vegetables were fresh and not frozen (perhaps with the exception of peas), the meal was piping hot and extremely tasty all for 6.95! The pub goes to a lot of trouble to do theme nights and decorates the pub accordingly. Looks great for Halloween and went to a lot of trouble so people could enjoy watching England in the World cup. Great beer garden in the summer well looked after and attractive with a nice water fountain to relax by.

Not everything is about you. Not that it matters anyway.
It dosent matter who i am really does it, i usemy own name an nobody elses when i have something to say. If i wanted to upset anyone id of left a biased view on the pub that you manage.

Just to clear a few points for the confused trying to make sense of these childish comments posted on this site;

The old manager used to be known as "Allportski"
The comments made on this page by the users ALLPORTSKI(1) and Christian have no connection with him.
User x8x_jade_x8x is in fact the landladies daughter, and Windora the landlady herself.

As to what is actually going on in Hounslow i have no idea nor do i have any wish to know. The sun pub was my baby from start to finish and i am proud to say that i had a major part in making it the main venue in Hounslow, maybe i am bias, you decide.
But even a madmans sanity has a limit and to why i handed in my notice and escaped just continue to read the message left here.
Good bye to you all.

well done in walking 0.25miles of the 22 sq miles of Hounslow. You found 1 pub at one end, maybe you should have walked the full 0.25 miles of the high street (or that padestrianised shit hole you were on about)to get to the 2 pubs at the other end. Comparing the sun to the Rose- you must be blind as well as stupid.
x8x_jade_x8x - 12 Apr 2010 21:11
To be the best pub in Hounslow doesn't really take a lot !! I walked the length of that disgusting pedestrianised road and only saw something called the Rose which defied belief (not listed on this site). Popped in here and wasn't that impressed. Most of the pub is given over to a Thai restaurant and there was a small pool area. The ales were limited so opted for a cider which tasted of domestos. All rather depressing. ALLPORTSKI1I - people are allowed to have an opinion and malo66 was just expressing his.
nickthefish - 1 Apr 2010 08:54
1971 you say. They probably all dead except you. All pubs were good in the 70's but unfortunately those days are long gone. Get yourself down to Asda and buy some Horlicks or Ovaltine and stay at home where you will be more comfortable. The pub cant be that bad or it would have followed the demise of many others. Maybe its just you that has grown into a grumpy old sod and cant change with the times. I love the pub Its clean and well run and they certainly dont put up with idiots. Ah! thats it you were thrown out for that very reason. Get a life
ALLPORTSKI1I - 23 Mar 2010 15:18
In 1971, this may have been the best pub in Hounslow town centre (as opposed to London Borough!) along with the now vanished Red Lion in the High Street, but most of the locals in town have definitely seen better days. It is very sad. There are far better pubs in Heston, Brentford, Isleworth, Chiswick - all part of LB Hounslow!
malo66 - 12 Mar 2010 12:51
Best Pub in The WHOLE LB of HOUNSLOW????...quote from Jim Royal "My Arse"
bjbrummiejohn - 12 Mar 2010 12:43
I see a green eyed monster commenting ,if thats your real name! Lol. Because its the best pub in the London Borough of Hounslow and yours is CRAP! It is STILL the best pub in the area and customers come from all over.

A pub is indeed what you make it and if your not putting any effort in your not going to get anywhere, hint hint. Helen is doing a great job and the sun is getting better and better.

Funny that when Hounslow Licensing last did their rounds with the police they commented on how the Sun is 'self policing' i think one of the officers found a slight trace of 'the thing' on the back of one of the toilets, yes a slight trace in one cubicle out of 6. Think the pub was full to the brim as well. For the busiest pub in hounslow i think that is self explainitory.

So well done in your attemp at slander it hasnt worked so far. For those of you that question the validity of Christians comment please click his name and see how many pubs he has commented on and how long he has been registered with this website.

Anyway, good luck, you need it x

Best pub in Hounslow by a long way. Very friendly staff and locals, excellent Thai food during the week and homestyle, good value sunday roast. Community Hub, helped Hounslow Council staff fundraising for Children in Need and boosted their collection by 130. Love the place.
stella1789 - 21 Nov 2009 14:16
Used this pub a year or so ago and thought it was the best hounslow had to offer by far !!! Recently it has been taken over by Albanians who que in an orderly fashion in the toilets to do their thing. If you need any thing for the weekend its on sale in here. Stay clear unless thats your thing.
christian.. - 4 Nov 2009 15:45
The food is very fresh and very flavorful, the whole pub is clean and it has a large garden out the back... All in all a very nice place to go!!!
WillowUK - 14 Aug 2009 10:47
well been a while since I posted a comment about the sun on here.
And have to say wow its still great and getting better....
Karaoke on a Thurday is by far the best in the area, and I have tried them all.
And going by the croud in there they all think the same...
At least one saturday a month they have a party for no reason or a birthday, Thai food is good but sunday lunch is great, always plenty to eat and you go away stuffed, and beer garden is fantastic....keep it going guys....
python888 - 11 Jul 2009 15:02
One of the best pubs in Hounslow, seriously! Friendly staff, decent prices, big beer garden and a great karaoke on Thursdays. Sometimes it's a bit raucous, but trouble inside is times few and far between.
CheekyShepherd - 29 Jan 2009 16:27
Must be the best pub in Hounslow by far. I cant say that any of the staff are rude theyre actually really nice. The roast dinners are to die for. The pub is fitg for all- lively over the weekend and suitable to go with your work buddies for a quiet lunch time drink.
x8x_jade_x8x - 23 Dec 2008 22:09
This place has little atmosphere to speak of and it feels like the Thai restaurant has taken over. There is a pool table and some plasma screens for the Sky Sports, but I found it difficult to get settled. Maybe it is better on a sunny day when the huge beer garden can be utilised.
Strongers - 23 Dec 2008 11:07
I went in a quiet drink with my friends, and well quiet is exactly what it was, the pub was completely dead, well i suppose i'm not too suprised as the staff are quite rude. I also found the pub to be very dark, which of course didn't help, i nearly fell asleep . I don't think i will ever be returning and i wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
i thought the food would be nice but to be honest it was average for the Hounslow area.

isleworth21 - 14 Dec 2008 11:51
was in the sun last week and found myself at a beach party, wow what a great night. Atmosphere was terrific, music great and they are doing it Christmas and new year..will definatly be there to party in the new year...keep up the good work......
python888 - 23 Nov 2008 08:58
The Thai food is FAB! It is all made from scratch and it may take a bit longer to get your food but, it is well worth the wait. The lunch menu is great value and the portions any time of the day are large. The staff on the Thai side of the pub may not speak great english but who cares when the food is this great!
WillowUK - 29 Aug 2008 11:24
Starting too like this pub more every visit well worth a look.
thefruitbat - 29 Jul 2008 18:01
The Thai food is to die for and last sunday decided to go for one of their roast lucnches. I got a lot more food than was expected. There were three of us, and when I saw the vegetables that came out i was impressed, but then.... we got 2 more huge portions of vegetables and we each got a huge boatful of gravy and they didn't skimp on the yorkshire puds!!! Will definatley be going back for the food!!!

The only downside was that if you go on a day when the footie is on, and like me you're not a fan, your lunch gets interupted by booing or cheering. The tables are a little uncomfortable but the food more than makes up for it.

Great pub yeah agree more a bar then a pub but I still like it because the locals are nice and there is always new people going in there so definely worth a visit
beertraveller - 13 Jan 2008 15:05
The gentleman who posted the comment about parking would not be in a position to comment on the beer here as he parked in the car park and went off shopping for two hours and on his return still did not bother entering the pub to buy a drink or to thank us for the use of our car park. He got a female to phone the pub to say she had been in to the pub and had a Thai meal and found a parking ticket on her car when she left. A few points to make note of: It was a lone male who parked the car and went shopping, the Thai kitchen was closed as it was a Sunday, it has all been recorded on camera and the parking company used would be horrified to hear they have been accused of illegal practice with their system and may even see it as slander. Maybe they will take legal action! I would not dream of parking in your drive and visiting your neighbours. Next time: BUY A FLAMING DRINK AND ASK!

the worst pub in hounslow, with the most expensive parking, 60 for two minutes. rude landlord, flat beer illegal parking attitudes poor pub. will not be back.
anonymous - 25 Nov 2007 19:06
What a pleasant pub, beautiful garden, shame about the weather, hard working girls behind bar also very pleasant, but something lacking, more a bar than a local.Won,t give up on it,the owner seems to be trying very hard.
anonymous - 10 Sep 2007 15:56

What a great pub,was a bit put off by the latter comments but went to look for myself thursday and will def use this place as often as possible. One of the better pubs in Hounslow. Clean good beer great company and it was the best Karaoke I have seen in a very long time. As for wondering to another pub, will let the others go gonna stay here for now.....

O dear, what used to be a charming pub has been turned into a gary glitter tacky gold tinsel bar with as much character as hounslow bus garage.it seems a lot of money has been badly wasted, the self indulgence of the management needs to be aimed at the customers, thank god for the smoking ban and retreat to the garden, better still, the windmill or cross lances.
dunroamin - 4 Jul 2007 14:37
Oh dear. First time back to the Sun since the refurbishment and what was a cosy, comfy local has decided it wants to be some kind of Yates-cum-Spearmint Rhino. "Spearmint Rhino" you say? Yes, what else could the spotlit pole in the main bar be for? Gone are the sofas, warm orange glow and real fires (missed in the winter!) :-(

It's still a charming building, has a great garden and serves good Thai food but we hope this prodigal "Sun" returns from its trip into decadence and comes back to its roots.

Until then we'll be heading to the Windmill on Bell Road.

this pub just gets better and better every time i go in its the best pub in hunslow// dont take my word for it have a look for yourself
angelaskitz11 - 17 Aug 2006 14:14
Definately the best pub in the area. Excellent Thai food, rivals that offered by Fullers in Chiswick and anything else locally. Great garden for the good weather and friendly bar staff.
martybeer - 29 Jun 2006 15:43
There are some great bands who play in here, a great pub with great food and efficient bar staff.

One of the best pubs on offer in Hounslow!
Succulent_Chicken - 6 Jun 2006 11:36
All in all a great pub. The bar staff are friendly. The beer is of good quality and the prices reasonable. It is one of the few pubs in Hounslow where you can feel safe as there is no trouble. It also has a superb beer garden with a few swings for kids. They do a great roast on a Sunday too. 10 out of 10.
anonymous - 19 May 2005 11:58
I have seen the changes in this pub over the years and all have been for the better. It's a very friendly pub, all the staff are efficient and friendly.I found it to be one of the few pubs in the hounslow area that I feel totally comfortable in.
midge68 - 17 May 2005 22:13
The Sun is a nice quiet pub off the main section of Hounslow High street. It could however do with a bit more atmosphere and although the garden has improved, the restaurant section could do with a face lift, which may encourage more customers to visit overall?
anonymous - 25 Jan 2005 21:11
Great friendly pub in an area that leaves alot to be desired. Thai restaurant now serves English food too. This pub improves every year. The garden in summer is a true haven and has got massive heated parasols on the patios. The pool table is a plus. Definately the pub to go to to relax and feel safe in a friendly atmosphere.
windora - 3 Dec 2004 14:39
This pub has changed a lot since I first moved to the area in the early nineties - and for the better too. Nice comfy leather sofas, dark wooden floors and paneling. The plasma screen is less intrusive than it could be although it would be nicer if it wasn't there at all. Decent garden, although it is set up for kids. Staff friendly... not bad at all.
Good for: Saturday afternoon Hounslow high street relief
thenationofjames - 23 Sep 2004 15:48
My post-work local for a few years. Best pint of London Pride you'll ever get.Alittle rough on occasion but mostly okay.
