user reviews of the Oak Tree, Sevenoaks

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Made up to look like a brewery tap room but it isn't. Only one cask ale on, Adnams, and more expensive than any other local pub. Appears to be trying to appeal to a young (and non-beer drinking!) clientele.

Double Smirnoff (50ml, in total) costs £9.13, with a splash of coke.

Including a 10% charge for bringing the drink to your table.

By some margin - the dearest prices in the area.

Some might even think, they're taking advantage of the virus!

Now The OakTavern and Tap. Unusual new strategy, with a large glasscased micro- brewery in the epicentre. Do they expect us to admire the slow brewing production? Massive missuse of space, which could be used so much better. Undoubtedly will fail again - not least because of the high prices, the internal uninteresting manufacturing site and bar persons, who have had very successful personally bypassed.

This pub has changed hands again since the last reviews and is now owned by the Faucet group who also have The Grasshopper in Moorhouse. It's now a really great place to go. The staff couldn't be more obliging. They have a positively and pleasantly daunting range of beers including some very exotic craft beers plus a great choice on draught. There's also a wide range of wines, gins, vodkas etc. Nice food although quality can perhaps be a little variable but it's always tasty and good value. It's a big, well laid out pub so you can always get a table. The Blligh's meadow car park (£1 in the evening) is right next door.

I really like this place, always feels very comfortable atmosphere-wise. Great beers and the food is really good too. One of my favourites.

Comfortable, relatively upmarket, pub from the Smith & Jones chain. Reasonably-priced food meant that it was busy at lunchtime, but the blackboards also indicate a range of evening events such as DJ nights and pub quizes. Several rooms and alcoves, leaving the horseshoe-shaped bar as a central island (although this is not obvious until you have a good look around). Four handpumps, with Brains SA (keenly priced at 2.45) joining the usual suspects of Greene King IPA, Harveys and Bombardier.

Bombadier is 1.90 a pint and for a lunch time ... Its an Hour well spent in this German Cruiser... The staff are friendly , It has the feel of a chain pub which it probably is .. But hay 1.90 !!!

Good pub for a beer, a bit of food and watching the football (one of the few places to watch the sport in Sevenoaks). Very large pub with different areas to sit in, including areas away from the TVs. Food not bad and usually 3 or 4 real ales to choose from.

Very nice pub. Staff seems to be really kind. Two friendly bouncers, the white one opens doors almost everytime when I go out for a fag (really kind of him), the black one does very nice welcome greetings. I spend there almost every weekend.

Neutral service, managed to mix up our food order too.

Fine if you want to watch the football I guess!

A young persons pub, if you don't like a noise, footy and staring at bristols then you're better off out of it. Crap music policy as well.

Not bad for daytime visit - friendly service, good range of beers and standard pub prices.

Busier than the Spoons only because Chelsea were on the TV. This S&J pub has a bit of character inside but the beer was poor (in the GBG !) and full of vertical drinkers. Not pleasant.

The oak tree lovely pub from the outside & really nice inside.
I was in out of that pub on a hot sunny Saturday sitting outside spending my money and having a laugh everyone even some of the bar staff where pleasant , then came the fun & games around 9.00 PM I ordered 2 drinks with the barman , then from out of nowhere a bouncer has told me to leave the premises because I abused or was rude to the barman , he knows & I know that never happened. So I was picked up dragged through the pub & thrown into the street , when I asked why they had no answers for me "what a surprise" The Manager was unhelpful the bouncers well there just bouncers dead heads flexing there muscles and safety in numbers.
All in all a nasty little pub with out of control bar staff & heavy handed bouncers.
I was lucky not to get hurt ???

The OAK TREE is a pub to avoid

Very rightly said below the staff are friendly but the one thing Ive noticed is the Oak Tree seems to be a haven for people barred from the slug and even the sennockian, apart from that it is quite a nice pub.

one of the frendliest pubs i have visited, the service was excellant and the cask ales were of the highest standards. The food was fresh, and tasty delivered quikly with a smile. I would have no hesitations in going back. An excellant experience and the managers should be credited for this.

It's okay, but not somewhere I'd choose to go very often. Food is average, beer is okay. Too many large tellies in the back, with a very chavvy feel about it.

You get a real mixture of people in here. Its a good meeting place and yes, you will know everyone in there so its good to catch up with old faces! Downside - very very smokey, even at the bar - I feel sorry for the people that work there. Might as well be called The Smoke Tree! Other than that its a good atmosphere.

I used to work there too, and yes ALL the attractive women do meet there. If you want to meet the people who love the Winchester so much come in and ask for the SSS crew (read the note below)
anonymous - 24 Nov 2004 14:18
used to work there, good pup, you cannot help but know everyone!
and is just me or do all the attractive women meet in there or somthing?

I see the Winchester crew are here! Although I think a very worthy announcement of SSS (Sevenoaks Slackers Society) has to be made. Oak Tree....hmm... wholely responsible for no work being done on a friday, a quick one surely turns into 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,...... one of those places it's great to stumble around pissed in!
megabucket - 23 Nov 2004 14:07
I LOVE THIS PLACE TOO!!!!

I LOVE THIS PLACE

This pub is the highlight of week, not only do I know nearly everyone that sets foot in there, I also have previously worked there and now presently socialise there!! It is well presented with a couple of wicked wide screens for football and rugby game nights. It has the most comfortable sofa's and great food served till 9pm, what more could you ask for?? The staff are friendly and the alcohol pretty cheap, there is disabled access into the pub and a car park pretty much right next to it... As you can tell I am a fan, definitely worth a visit!

THIS IS THE BEST PUB IN SEVENOAKS.

winchester - 23 Nov 2004 12:36
This pub doesn't appeal to me although it has quite nice mix of decor...old and new. It just doesn't have that something a good pub needs.
Mark - 18 Oct 2004 18:51
Cosy pub in winter with log fires and big chocolate brown leather sofas. Unfortunately this place is incredibly smokey due to the low ceilings and poor ventilation, younger crowd at weekends. Bar is not too expensive but nothing fancy either.
