Not sure if this place is going to reopen after coronavirus lockdown? Signs on doors today (06/08/2020) saying "this Wetherspoons is closed". No great loss frankly, was handy if shopping in town centre but basically as far as clientele went it was "Chav Central", and the majority of teh staff appeared to be semi comatose at most times (unless serving their mates).

Modern Wetherspoons in a Unit in the new part of town.

Just about as far as you can get from a traditional pub experience in a place that serves beer.

This pub "does what it says on the tin",
Cheap beer , and I have never had a dodgy pint, plus the staff seem to know their stuff, probably because the manager has been there for a while.

I have never eaten here , so I cannot comment on the menu.

This W/spoons would never be confused with Ye Olde Hertfordshire Pubbe, but
then again I would rather pay £ 2-10 for a tasty pint, than £4-20 !

Good for a couple of hours watching the world go by, in the late afternoon.

I had a pint of Good Old Boy from the West Kennet brewery and it was superb. Fresh, slightly chilled and flavoursome. The staff were friendly and polite and so were the two doormen which makes a nice change. Nice mixed Wetherspoons-type crowd, and 2 pints cost £4.25. If you're in the town centre shopping area, this is not a bad place to grab a pint or two, and much better than the Old Post Office next door.

What is wrong with the management at this Wetherspoons? 3pm on a Saturday afternoon and only two staff serving behind the bar, (one of whom was a trainee). Staff very slow, and rubbish at knowing which customers have been waiting longest, shouting "OK who's next?" doesn't really work. Shame as the American IPAs were in good condition. One to avoid at busy times of day I feel!

Ale was okay but this place was more like a McDonalds than any Wetherspoon I have been in so far with most of the clientelle munching on some form of food or other and a set of tabels upstairs near the toilets which was straight out of the fast food outlet guidebook for fitting out your premises. Was like being ina barn with grazing cattle (Moooo!). Got to give them the due on the beer though as it was a nice pint of Burton Bridge stout.

Since the arrival of the new manager, Charlie, This pub is much improved. The range and availibilty of the Real Ales is excellent, the Staff friendly and efficient, and the whole ambience changed for the better.

Found the two beers I tried both excellent. No complaints with service, although I found them a bit slow in cleaning tables. A bizarre upstairs seating area, next to the toilets. A more than reasonable spoons, despite being next to the shopping centre that time forgot.

Another dreadful example of a Wetherspoons.
I can remember when walking into a strange town, that these were a nice safe starter pub to go to until you found your bearings for a better one.
Visited last night whilst waiting for a train. Ordered a pint of Hereford Bitter, and foolishly tasted it without smelling it first, it was worse than Sarson's.
Managed to wash my mouth out, thought, foolishly I'd try something else which turned out to be not much better.
Absolutely no effort by the landlady, as I believe she was, to apologize. My money was returned begrudgingly.
On the way in, someone posing as a doorman, was trying to sell drugs to all and sundry. Anyone interested was told to only come near him once the CCTV camera had moved off him!!

INCORRECT POSTCODE which should be SG1 1PF.This pub is in Stevenage town centre and not near Walkern.

This Wetherspoons is the only real ale outlet in the town/shopping centre and is cheap so be thankful for small mercies.Besides the ubiquitous GK Abbott,Ruddles County and Best,Courage Best there are some smaller brewery ales which on my trip included Warwickshire Brewery Churchyard Bob and Nethergate Azzarat which were OK .The ground floor bar is open plan while it is quite a hike upstairs to the higher level seating are.The clientele is attracted by the cheap booze and a sad reflection of the current economic climate, many the worse for wear and clearly un(der)employed. Not suitable for great Aunt Agatha but functional for beers if you are unlucky enough to find yourself shopping in Stevenage.

Good service and well priced, nice and airy pub shame the other places have closed down around it.

Typical Spoons pub. Lots of space and not enough seats. Cheap avarage pub food. Ale price best around, Good selection of Ales on tap, 5 on saturday with 2 being guest.
Had a nice pint of Sneck Lifter for less than 2 quid.
Downside is every bugger in stevenage goes there because its dirt cheap.
Best time to visit is in the afternoon between the lunch rush and the evening rush.

Crap, but better than the old town wetherspoons. Hate having to walk up the stairs every time I need a piss. Good for checking out girls though

Cheap Beer & Close 2 the train station, this is a very big building. It has a tall staircase which i would not like to negotiate after several pints though! 8/10
fat_beer_badger - 26 Aug 2006 14:43
it gets PACKED but it's nice, needs more seating though!
katykit - 9 Feb 2006 13:10
Archetypal town-centre 'Spooner. Does everything it says on the tin. Range of beers a bit on the bland side tho. Staff are nice here.
jamie.nakin - 26 Jan 2006 11:28
Jupiler now taken out. Place has gone down hill, service is very slow. Some good looking barmaids though
anonymous - 20 Sep 2005 12:42
There's a great open staircase which is perfect for watching the local talent.
shedboy - 1 Aug 2005 18:56
This bar now sells Belgiums most popular beer, Jupiler

Nice modern pub frequented by youngans in the evening and all ages over 18 during the day. The drinks and food are very cheap and quality is good. Staff are nice. 10 real ales usually on the handles and a vast array of other drinks too. They also hold regular beer festivals with extra ales. You can get drunk with a 10 note in this pub.

i like the decor of this pub and on the several occasions i have been there i have found the staff to be really helpful and friendly. they actually seem to be happy to be at work! as with most weatherspoons pubs it can get really busy, but the queue at the bar is worth the wait as the prices are very low! i dont really like going out in the evening in stevenage really, but this place is okay. its a nice pub to meet up with mates and have a chat over a few cheap beers.
