Some catching up to do! I went here on Sunday and had the cheese and tomato panini, on Monday I had the veggie Texan Burger and today I opted for the Lasagne! I had a pint of real ale on each occasion! You can even sit by the windows and watch the traffic and people walking past.

Today I went to Wetherspoons in Guildford and had fish and chips with mushy peas and curry sauce. I Even had a pint of Abbot Ale to spice things up. You can sit at one of the many tables in this big pub.

Much better today for some reason! Almost totally empty so thats probably why. The Landlord was enjoying the cricket. The beer is pretty good and they showed plenty of sport on tv!
26 Aug 2017 17:56
Pint of Olivers Island. Amazingly weak beer but drinkable. They do Monday darts nights now but where is the darts board?
27 Jun 2017 17:52
Pub has now opened again. Excellent tasting real ale and the interior is much smarter and brighter than previously. Very good.

I haven't been in the Dog and Bull for at least two years and i had a swifty in the Oval in June that hardly makes me a Croydon drunk!I have been to the Sultan for instance sixteen times since the start of June, I certainly do not frequent Croydon's pubs much at all!
2 Aug 2017 12:05
I couldn't quite catch that could we have it a third time.At least we know the pie topping was Welded on.You always get an ancient old fart on here who keeps his finger on the button for multiple postings....we have a winner.

Fozzy and slerpy, please be constructive - it's bad enough having to put up with the gibberish computer geeks put on - let's try and keep the site to the purpose it was created for.

Reviews by BITE users:

Worse than the Drummond, despite having a beer here. The beer took what seemed like an age to be served. The range of ales is disappointing. Nothing above 4%? Can't even make it a full pint either. Miserable and drab.
1 Aug 2017 16:55
Bad today. Even the cash machine does not work! A bit like the food service! Staff are the most miserable i've come across. Only a week until the Kings Head across the road opens at least.
3 Jun 2017 18:14
Given the recent reviews and issues of the Stoke Pub I decided it was time to try again. For a change there was no unfriendly service at the bar, just a nice lady working there - foreign no doubt but a nice lady. I was assuming i'd be waiting half an hour for a pizza and thus end up walking out rather than complaining as i'm a nice guy. It arrived within 15 minutes and was a very good pizza. I'll give it the thumbs up for now, but would like a bit more real Ale selection in the future.

The drunks of Croydon?

Old slerpy has been one for decades.

3 Mar 2017 14:27
Tuna,That Steak on hot stones is repeating on you, three posts in two days saying the same thing, this pub resembles a museum ,i have got used to it,the beer is very expensive therefore a good place to hide away from the drunks of Croydon.

I really enjoy Fullers beer so this pub ticks all the boxes. A good place to meet up for a post work beer. Friendly staff and well kept beer.
15 Jan 2017 19:08
The spreadeagle is a fantastic old style boozer, a fine range of ales and a couple of treacle a behind the bar. Had a really nice lunch with my family in there , when a fracas ensued. This entailed of a little tubby fella (who looked remarkably like Ricky gervais character "Derek") having a wrestling match with a small bald dude who was shouting obscenities (at the character we identified as "Derek") in what I think was sounded Israeli . Our family was very distraught at the trouble which ensued with neither party backing down and which ended up with people looking at this wrestling match which was like 2 seals sliding about on the ice . The tubby one was particularly aggressive and after all was said and done with , kept arguing "that he was not to blame". On what was a lovely day out , this "Derek "character and foreigner spoiled what would have been a fantastic experience at this hidden gem of a boozer in Croydon !
15 Jan 2017 17:23
An attractive pub with an ambience not experienced at other locations in the vicinity. Staff were friendly and knowledgable regarding the variety of ales on offer.
One downside, on entering from the side door, I had to negotiate a little fat bloke wrestling on the ground with his bald mate. Luckily they seemed to run out of steam and moved on soon after.

Staff were mine or fine Oh right so I cant edit whats been typed fucking bite!
26 Jun 2017 19:44
Very disappointing on a Monday, but I can't blame the staff. Staff were mine today. Not that long a wait to get served but the customers who come here must be some of the most annoying. Godalming does attract some annoying people.

Reviews by BITE users:

Yes, saw something in the publicans' press about Wetherspoon's interest - for a Lloyds outlet. Makes sense in view of existing entertainment licences, and the demise of the only nightclub in the area.

Could be acquired cheaply and JDW often have more than one unit in the same location. Two in Worthing - across the road from each other. I - for one - hope JDW come in again - as the other pubs are dire.
28 Dec 2016 18:14
Interesting weald.

Yes the Wetherspoon (Sun) has taken 90% of Redhill's pub business.

I'm told they're looking at this venue, at the other end of the long High Street.

Big enough premises - and ticks a lot of 'spoon' boxes.

Like near a station and McDonald's.
22 Dec 2016 18:09
Can't see this place opening before Christmas, or ever.

Over the years, there have been several reincarnations/new names/management and themes - all failed.

Because so many Redhill pubs have closed, it has become a Wetherspoon zone - with The Sun as the only decent pub.

With an enormous turnover, and no real competition.

A more organised and dare we say grand, reopening event is being scheduled for Saturday 7th October! For those yet to come and enjoy what this revived local pub has to offer, do come and give it your onceover. Lots of fellow sociable drinkers have already, and seem not to be disappointed! Final event details still TBA, but be assured that there''ll be plenty to get stuck into.
19 Sep 2017 17:42
Well, I shan''t seek to dispute what you say as there is some truth in it of course for many people. But that doesn''t mean a bright, friendly local boozer is entirely irrelevant, and so far the feedback received has been positive, and trade has been pretty steady too, despite our still nascent offering.

Thanks for the good wishes, and if ever you feel like an evening of old-fashioned simple enjoyment free of the tedium of stuff like supermarkets and Wetherspoon''s (in particular, The Sun), then you shall always be welcome in the Gari.
1 Sep 2017 16:00
Called in since the reopening - bright, friendly , old local. But life moves on - time has taken over.

Most don''t want a chat with a regular; too busy for that. 4/5 pubs within half a mile have closed.

Bus conductors have gone - like chimney sweeps, farriers, phone boxes, wimpey bars, corner shops, many bus routes and lifestyles.

Now we relate differently - and use supermarkets and Wetherspoons. Godd luck though.

Discovered this place on New Year's Day and it's a gem. I said I'd say it so I will, the staff were excellent and I love the decor in places like this.
5 Feb 2017 18:46
last Saturday the cask ales were served much too cold, therefore not much taste.

Reviews by BITE users:

This "alternative venue" is an off licence, only a Martian would think that an off licence is anything different! it does a range of bottled beers and one or two on stillage. it is not exactly first date material! Only worthwhile for elderly CAMRA types who want to boast that they had a warm bottle of Crudginton's old hot water bottle at 24.3% that costs two mortgages. So therefore It is invariably empty like the returned bottles.1/10.
21 Jul 2017 18:56
Great and alternative venue. Like Four Hops in Reigate.

Both on West Street(s).

Craft ale, at its best.....
28 May 2017 17:57
The Know-it-all attitude turns customers away,Dorking is very poor for choice and as i don't drink at home this tiny excuse for an off licence doesn't improve matters.

Reviews by BITE users:

I liked this pub before it was done up, but happily it has survived quite well. They still have bar billiards! Worst thing about it is that it''s a bit out of the way.
31 Aug 2017 15:39
Punch have applied for planning permission to build two houses in the garden - which would have four spaces in the already small car park.

Locals are not happy and are raising a petition - like the customers of the Limes and Garibaldi, not far away.

However, unlike those two pubs, Punch say the Old Oak will continue to trade - albeit without it's nice beer-garden.
17 May 2017 09:49
The food and music has arrived!

A most pleasant boozer, with a friendly governor.

Decor - and facilities - are of a high standard.

With Sky Sport, free Wi-Fi, weekly quiz and parking.

Best pub for miles.

Reviews by BITE users:

Demolition work has started at the rear of the property. Whether the plan is to pull it all down or just the crappier rear part is unknown. I think it's going to become a hotel with a bar downstairs.
21 Jun 2017 22:29
Shuttered as of 11 March. The plan to convert it into a hotel seems to be going ahead. This could actually be what the area needs (provided it really is a hotel, not a builders' hostel like the Six Bells - I know builders need a place to stay but a proper hotel would bring in trade to the area).
14 Mar 2017 07:17
What a shithole this place has become. Whilst the beer is ok and the live music its best feature, the standard of the pub is very poor. Venturing into the gents loo is like walking into the proverbial black hole of Kolkata: grimy, squelchy underfoot, stinking and bleak. Not surprisingly it's quiet a fair bit of the time and has often closed when you would think it would be open. I've heard that it is going to be converted into a hotel....
