Large, imposing pub that has been opened up to one large bar. Busy on a Wednesday evening. Some people were dining. Others were watching the football. 3 mainstream ales were on - Bombardier, Doom Bar & Spitfire. Not as bad as I was expecting.

How this place has kept its 'Cask Marque' accreditation is beyond me. If you must drink here, stick to lager and be prepared for a long wait at the bar, even if the pub's not busy.

This used to be the best pub around, unfortunately it has been on a downward spiral for many years now!
The bitter is "bland to dreadful", if you're lucky, and the service must be the worst in the Wirral!! I was one of only 3 people at the bar once, and still had to wait over 10 minutes to get served!
The pub/manager is losing money hand over fist purely due to a badly run bar - last Saturday night it took an age to get served, there just wasn't enough bar staff, and what was there didn't seem interested in getting the punters served!!
It's very sad to see what was a great pub go down the nick like this.....

An attractive yellow sandstone faade will set the first-time visitor's expectations, but they will be sadly disappointed once inside.
An old Wallasey pub, once the pickup joint for the local cultured, semi-hip in crowd, prior to their settling down.
Known for its crowd of youths packed at the bar (whom would manage to make one pint last an entire evening), slow service, and bland beer.
Its redeeming features being the pleasant company and its wood panelling.
Alas, both of the later have gone, swept away in 2006 by designers with more money than taste, while the slow service, and bland beer remain.
Not worth a visit until after its next makeover.

nice pub, good food,i asked for a top up on my beer and was told by the barman with attitude he's allowed by law to serve a pint with 5% head but never the less he topped it up.
