Called in here as it looked like the most inviting pub in the area, and you pretty much know what you're going to get with a large Wetherspoons. Went for a pint of Yates of Cumbria Golden at 3.9% which set me back the grand sum of £1.90. I think this must be the cheapest pint I have had in a long time. The ale itself was fine, the pub was pleasant enough if a little sterile. Plenty of seating though.

Unfriendly staff, who threatened to ban 2 seemingly respectable customers while I was watching, for complaining about the temperature of the beer, after telling them to drink somewhere else if they didn't like it - seemed very excessive. Seemed to take ages to get served.
They'd ran out of wine glasses so served it in a half pint glass, also refused to serve a bottle of wine after 10.00 incase the four of us hadn't finished by the time they closed.
Food tepid, typical Wetherspoons offering.
One to avoid.

Typical JDW conversion close to the railway station. A good selection of real ales and lots of Cumbrian beers available last Saturday. All beers tried were in good condition and the staff were efficient & friendly.

Staff are hard working, helpful and friendly. Beers - always 10 guests - are good - well-conditioned in the cellar. Big emphasis on beers brewed in Cumbria - supplied direct to the pub. Lately: Yates, Cumbria Legendary Ales, Derwent, Geltsdale, Ulverston and coming soon Hawkshead.

One of the best Wetherspoons anywhere and certainly the best pub in Whitehaven.

Almost opposite the station.
