Final pub of New Year's Eve in Nuneaton for me was this Wetherspoon's. It seemed fairly small in comparison to many I've been in. That meant that toilets were frustratingly on a different level. It started off quiet, but gradually got busier whilst I was there. Ales were Oakham Bishop's Farewell, Ringwood XXXX Porter, Wolf Granny Wouldn't Like It, Roosters Yankee, Marston's Pedigree, Greene King Abbot & Ruddles Best. They also had two ciders - Thistly Cross Whisky Cask & Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon.

Not sure why I haven’t reported on this place before, because it’s one of my favourite Wetherspoons. Shows an example to some of the other branches as to how a place should be run. It’s not the largest branch, and only has 9 handpumps, but there are always 6 guest ales on, never a “coming soon” or blank clip. Often a reasonable range too – today there were several which appealed to me, I ended up with the Belhaven Burns Brown Ale and Sadlers Mud City Stout – both very nice. I can’t fault the food either. I usually have a curry – and there are none of the chewable poppadoms or warm mango chutneys you see elsewhere.

The place is light and airy, and the clientele is reasonable and friendly (none of the lowlifes that other branches seem to attract). Staff are attentive, and tables are kept clean. The barmaids are quite nice as well – including the obligatory redhead !

7/10 – about as good as it gets at Spoons.

Popped in for a burger and beer on Boxing Day during impromptu shopping trip. Perfectly adequate for what it is - i.e. a dependable last resort. Pint of Bombardier in decent order.

Sometime meet an old friend here for lunch as it's about halfway on the train between where we both live. Nice pub, daytime staff are excellent. Beer choice always interesting, food is good and arrives quickly. Does tend to be patronised by pissed pensioners, but now that I are one I don't care ! They're all totally non-threatening anyway.

Got told off last time for taking our beers outside when we went for a smoke - our fault, not the pub's - but a very nice young lady took them back to our table for us. Also once stood in the gents listening to someone singing "Me & Bobby McGhee" in one of the traps - and he forgot the words ! Criminal, lol !

We just love it here. It's a bit like JFK Airport (you'll always see someone you know). We particularly love the big barman with the spikey hair and massive grin (young Tom).
