On reaching Atherstone by canal, this was the first pub that I headed for, because it had a score of 8/10. What a disappointment! It was totally devoid of customers at 7pm and there was one hand pump with Speckled Hen. As for food, I didn't even ask, as I turned around and walked out in disgust. 1/10

Was quite surprised by this pub. It definitely looks the part of a proper town pub but these days you don't expect that to equate with a decent beer. Even more so when the beer is a choice of Bass or Brew XI. I plumped for the Brew XI and it was a decent drinking beer, in fact would go as far as to say the best pint of Brew XI I've ever had (I know that isn't usually a good selling point but it does show that even the worse of beers can be made palatable if served properly).

We were recommended this place by a local B+B (Abbeyfarm -excellent)
Very good atmosphere, friendly locals and very good home cooked food. Good range of beer and guest ales.
A warm welcome, realfires, kids area with skittles and Biker friendly too.
