Has just been taken over by Joules which is rather worrying as most of my real ale pals do not like their beers which are seldom seen in Wellington. We have been told that there would only be two Joules ales on and the rest would be guest ales but there were four on last week and the Hobsons Mild has disappeared. The Slumbering Monk was on too long and was dire. It is a bit of a walk out of the town centre and at the moment I'm not convinced it is worth it. A full refurbishment is promised and necessary but I have no doubt Joules will fill this pub with their unsightly tin plate tat all over the walls and destroy the ambience forever.

The Cock is situated on a busy junction. It''s a great old pub with lots of character. The main bar has hops on the ceiling. There is another quieter room that presumably acts as the lounge and a more formal restaurant at the rear. The barmaid or landlady was friendly and greeted us by at least informing us that the Kelham Island Pale Rider. It''s nice to have such professionalism when you can go to many places, try ordering a beer and find that it''s not actually on. Ales remaining were Hobson''s Best & Dark Mild, Wood''s Purple Haze, Skinner''s Betty Stogs, Joule''s Blonde & Burton Bridge Porter. The cider was Old Rosie. Best pub in Wellington.

Great pub, great beer; what a proper pub should be. They even had a proper pub dog. I look forward to returning and staying longer.

Solid interior, great ale selection, relaxed atmosphere.

It's a place I stumbled upon whenever Telford did well in the cup, and I got dragged here unavoidably, but very much a silver lining to all that.
