It shows on reflection how this place has priced out the ordinary Joe public, when regular 'Posties' are supping in the nearby Angel. It must be well over 12 months since I last frequented the Marble. Not that I'm disrespecting the Angel- in fact it has become a firm favourite of mine in recent months. The standard of the real ales being in top notch condition with friendly staff. The Marble Arch along with the Brewdog outlet in central Manchester, exceeds in being totally pretentious and out of touch considering the current economic climate, in my humble opinion! realalerules1983 - 27 Oct 2012 18:51
Visited on 9 April to see the mighty U’s hammered by the even mightier Bury. Had a couple of pints of Manchester bitter which was on good form, and the stout which was also excellent, gutted that again the Ginger went before I could get my hands on it. A note on prices, as I pay London prices for my ale i.e a minimum of £3.30 in the Edgar Wallace and up to £3.90-£4.00, paying £2.85 for the Manchester bitter and £3.05 for the stout is pretty good to me. Have to say I agree with the comments about the food though, £10.95 for burger, chips and minimalist salad is taking the p somewhat especially when compared with the Basketmakers in Brighton. Overall though this pub is the reason I enjoy trips to see the U’s in this part of the world. 8/10 Monkdawallydahonk - 11 Apr 2012 10:33
My partner and I went here prior to a gig at Band on the Wall (about 10 minutes walk). I can see that it's a traditional pub that's been 'elevated' to sub-gastro status, which has obviously priced out previous regulars. That's a shame but it's also business - if the beer was rubbish, I'd understand the annoyance, but it is Marble Beer and it's reliably tasty and worth every penny. Believe me when I say that pubs in London serve piss for £4 a pint - you've got a range of great boozers in Manchester, don't knock em! The Marble 57 Thomas St and Castle being a case in point. pkrp - 18 Dec 2011 00:19
Visited the other day. Superb pub (been visiting for 25 years) but the prices are ridiculous now. Beer quality was excellent as was the food but even this is now 'masterchef' stuff ie small portions at ridiculous prices. Would seem its turned into a 'bankers/city workers' establishment who can afford these prices. Can we have our old Marble Arch back please ?............ yummybeer - 6 Nov 2011 01:36
