The Riverside Tavern is on the comeback... i visited the pub recently and i was amazed how much better it has got since it changed hands again in October!! the Team in there now are so nice it was a pleasure to visit. the interior has had a revamp too! its really nice... warm and welcoming!! i would definately recommend this pub again, oh the daytime food is good too.

The Riverside has been a 'local' for us for a few years, having only discovered it prior to my sons 18th birthday. Previously it was a comfortable, nicely decorated pub, that we visited on numerous occasions with ageing parents/ kids etc in tow - we were always made to feel welcome, and although it was 'gay friendly' you never felt out of place if you were straight, even on the quiz nights etc. My husband and I went back last week, after it had been taken over, and were DISAPPOINTED! The interior is now cold and uninviting, and outside in the previously well-kept garden, you were ankle deep in weeds and cigarette ends. We stayed for one quick drink, and were off! As I say, very disappointing - we had many good nights here before, and one very enjoyable and memorable 18th birthday party - my daughter, who is nearly 18, has decided against hiring this venue ! :( Better off going over the bridge to Rochester...

i have used the riverside a few times over the last 4 years of living in Rochester, the location is great on a sunny day for a drink beside the river and the food has always been very nice, also used it on club nights on the odd sat or wed over the years and its been a good night out........UNFORTUNATELY this has now turned into what can only be described as a joke of place, its full of chavs (mainly girls) from the local estate who run amok of the place screaming and swearing and it seems that one of the new large owners just joins in and thinks this is normal. The whole place felt uncomfortable to be in as there just seemed to be an atmosphere of rowdy teenage chavs who thought they owned the place and wouldn't appear out of place appearing on Jeremy Kyle.

new owners = lazy not interested staff = don't go there its hideous

This is probably the best pub in Strood.

While it's nominally a gay pub, I had no issues going there as a single straight man, and the whole place just felt welcoming and friendly.

Grotty location, but the place is immaculate inside and out, with a cracking outside area overlooking the river.

No decent beers, which is the only thing that drags it down in my eyes.
