Currently closed. Still looks like a pub. But not sure if it will re-open or not.

Came across the Nelson by chance on Friday after lunch at the Ferryboat in Ship Hotel (another story)
Amazing to read the last review in 2011 - the smell!
Friendly enough pub and a wide selection of beer - I tried one from the "Beer Festival" range - not memorable as we left after only drinking a half
What a shame about this place. Wonderful building in a beautiful location. But why all the plastic pots, family photos and fairy lights - it's seen better days and the owners seem to be living in the past
What IS that smell?!

A very strange smell pervaded the whole of this pub when I visited it a couple of days ago, like a mixture of stinking wet dogs and some sort of strange room freshener. Enough Christmas lights for a whole town had been put up and were switched on, a very old lady and a white bearded old man were watching on 'on thee buses' on an old TV in the corner. He struggled up and served me a pint of Humpty dumpty brewery beer from the cellar, although handpumps seemed to be in use on the bar. Really don't know what to make of it, seemed like something out of the 'league of gentlemen'!

Lovely riverside watering hole. Weather was a perfect, late summer's evening when I visited. Musical entertainment was provided by a great band called Polaris who played sixties music in the marquee acroos the road from the pub.
I shall be back, availing myself of the convenient and regular train service.

Had a good time here on a mixed up Summers day at their Beer Festival, heat then squally showers had us sitting outside then rushing for cover. The festival is great and you can hang out around the front, chatting away, which is good because inside, it can only be described as scruffy and disorganised. This is not to run it down, it's probably part of it's charm. What is not so great is the food, this is of the Microwave school of cooking, probably the worst Pub food I have had in years and believe me I have had some dodgy ones. Back to the outside though and it is a happy place, mock tudor with a beaten up marquee across the, thankfully, quiet road and the river moorings. I liked my time there but wouldn't eat again.
