A fantastic pub which I have visited several times. Perfect for a pint before seeing a gig at the Academy. Always got plenty of choice of real ale and I have never had a bad pint in here. The pool tables are great for a quiet afternoon drink and right next to the Holy Name Church which is ideal for me and fellow Smiths fans :-)

Popped in here out of the rain for a quick pint after a gig at the Academy. Lovely pub! Nice layout, friendly bouncers. (it reminded my of how the old Firkin pub chain used to be years ago).

Six real ales on when I was there. They seem to rotate often with their guest ales, giving a good choice. Otherwise it's very studenty (if such an adjective exists) but not bad at all.

I was there the first week it opened way back when and the Tim Taylor's was astonishingly good. It didn't take many weeks before you had to switch to lager. Not enough demand for real ales to make them consistent.

Full of knob heads at the weekend during term time but, as mentioned below, it's very relaxed at lunch times and is an excellent place to watch the cricket over the summer.

The main gripe is, why must it be so dark in there? What are they hiding?

Fun place with a nice atmosphere and nice decor, but the drinks are a bit expensive for your average student to come here too regularly unfortunately.
