| Called in for Sunday lunch recently, great to be able to sit in comfy leather armchairs by an open log fire while we waited for our table - and after the meal. Quite varied Sunday menu, but looks like there's a bit more choice in the week judging by the chalkboards. Prices about average for the area (i.e. not cheap!). Uninspiring choice of beer, only Hooky Bitter and Greene King IPA available, which was disappointing. ferend - 11 Feb 2013 11:41 |
| This pub is light years better than it was only a few months ago. Far from the desolate place of 2009, this pub now has a more 'local' feeling about it, without compromising on the always excellent food. | Pleasantly surprised to find that this pub is open all day, very attractive inside with old beams and flagstone floor plus a nice outdoor seating area (sadly right next to the car park!). Friendly attentive staff. Can't comment on the food as I only called in for a quick pint on a weekday afternoon, however if the price of the beer is anything to go by it won't be cheap to eat here... | The White Horse benefits from being a beautiful building in a very attractive village. Slightly off the beaten track (or at least the dual carriageway from Deddington) it is worth a visit. A new landlord and a new menu have spruced things up and on the glorious Sunday afternoon of our visit we enjoyed a straightforward and most enjoyable roast lunch. We haven't had the opportunity to try any of the rest of the menu yet but we will sometime in the not too distant future. The menu changes regularly. At the time of our visit it was Polish Week, which is not a cuisine I would normally seek out. However, judging from the noises of approval from a number of nearby tables it can't have been bad. The usual range of keg beers are available as are some unusual real ales. Given the weather I would have liked to see a decent cider on offer but that is a quibble rather than a major issue (for me anyway). I wouldn't recommend making a special journey for the White Horse but, if you're in the area, you could do a lot worse. DrBunsen - 17 Jun 2009 10:45 |
| Great news, the dreadful landlord has gone, the pub is now always warm and we villagers are thrilled! Peter and Jo, now in charge and trying really hard to make this a village local. Live music on some evenings, special meal deals regularly and always a friendly welcome.
