Visited here one lunchtime during the week and found it surprisingly quiet. Had 4 ales on tap so I decided to try the Brains SA Gold which was very nicely kept. There is a food menu which consists of your mainly typical pub grub though I have to say the steak & ale pie was tasty. Needless to say the interior is comedy-themed with pictures of famous comedians of past and present so I would like to do one of the comedy nights there sometime in the future.

I can't say what it's like there in the evenings as it maybe totally different from the daytime but I couldn't really fault it from my visit and I would recommend a visit if ever you're passing.

Feels a bit like a hotel bar, but does sell a number of real ales on draft. Great place to go if looking for a quiet drink, as can usually get a seat/table.

Was in here last saturday afternoon about 3 o'clock and there were only 3 people in here.No real ale, usual bland chain-pub interior,if you want a drink in a pub go next door to the Tom Cribb.

Downstairs is quite a good place for a gig as the room is a regular shape, improving the acoustics, and people are not likely to drift in off the street and hold loud conversations on their mobile phone while the band are trying to play. Bands heard include Twisted Trees and the Silver Wizard Project, both of whom can now say they have played the West End (well, under it in fact).
However 3.70 for a pint of lemonade and lime juice is rather steeper than the north face of the Eiger and stopped me having a second one. People tend to drink soft drinks more slowly than beer anyway so why not encourage the customer to drink more of them by charging less?
I can't say much about the upstairs except that it does coffee, which was ok and not too expensive either.
