| This is a pub I've been wanting to tick for a couple of years now, and i finally made it here the other Friday afternoon. I was not disappointed with this pub, 11 pumps dispensing 10 ales, many of the choices being from Scottish breweries, my first pint was a golden choice from Itchen Valley and was excellent. I ordered some food as it was lunchtime, Scampi and chips, again it was very good & done the trick. Busy with a lot of customers ordering food. Plenty of pictures on the walls, and a very impressive selection of awards the majority for the quality of their beer. | Great range of beer - from all over the place - great range of whisky - good atmosphere and well worth a visit (take the train to Charing Cross and then get over the motorway!!) Split level drinking areas with a sort of "beerhouse" decor to it. mcroyal - 20 May 2014 09:45 |
| First tried the Bon Accord in the early 1980s when it was an oasis - sadly did not return until a few years ago and with some trepidation, as things change. Happily there was nothing to worry about - this remains an excellent bar just west of the M8 and not far south of Sauchiehall St. Maybe 10-12 handpumps with at least 8 of them devoted to guest beers that. The place can be very busy but seems always well-staffed so that one doesn't have to wait. Good facilities generally, with food lunch and evening. A must if you're in central Glasgow. | WhenI I moved to Glasgow from London in the 80s it was a real ale desert apart from the Bon Accord. It was the only place that kept us sane. Everywhere else served lager only. In those days the Bon Accord had no windows and a kind of hole in the wall, Presbyterian look about it. As though drinking was sinful. It's all opened up now and looks much like a lot of "upgraded" pubs. But last time I was there it was still the best pub ib Glasgow. Tewin - 10 Jan 2013 23:25 |
