| UPDATE:Reopened suddenly last year and the new Landlords have gone for the ,pint buck' again. Happy hour 5-7pm weeknights.pool table.A few wankers in there,but they tend to follow the happy hours anyway. Would I go in? | I recently went into this pub after hearing about the refurbishment and was very impressed. I spoke to the staff (who were very polite) and they told me the pub is now run by a couple who lease the premises. From what I understand Leaseholders and tenants pay high prices for their beer unlike Weatherspoons who have massive buying power and get their beer at next to nothing there is no way they can compete. (hence why pubs are going skint!) It obviously cost a lot of money to do up the pub which is now keeping out the undesirables - I say well done and good luck! jobber - 3 Sep 2010 16:31 |
| Yes,they've done a good job tarting this place,and its now unrecognisable to what it was. But does it offer anything new to the other countless 'upmarket' pubs that now seek to serve the 'brown cords from London brigade' in Bury St Edmunds?Well..........no. And the tariff?Very expensive. So a nice paint-job,yet strangely sterile and generic in feel. Bring on the Wetherspoons at the Corn Exchange site,then maybe pubs like this will have to sit-up and start to become more competitive price-wise.
