Perfectly OK traditional village local on a noisy main road. Extra point for serving us at 3.20 when they had apparently closed at 3. Five ales from the Palmers range, I tried the Copper Ale for the first time at £3.30 which was fine for one but I am not the biggest fan of Palmers (sorry Ian Mapp!) as they always seem to lack a little life. If I was holidaying very nearby then I would probably return.

Another Palmers House. This is a good thing. Much bigger on the inside than you would expect, with front bar, restaurant area and then TV room at the back. They were catering for everyone on a Saturday night. Bar Drinkers, Diners and the England Rugby. Food was excellent value and beer superb. Seemed to be a lot of activities on. A proper village pub.

We always use this establishment each time we stay in Chideock and have never found anything but a friendly welcome. This is a very popular place to eat and each Palmers ale is well kept. Would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. Steve, Emma and the staff deserve all the plaudits for all the work they do to maintain such high standards.

Made two visits in a week while staying in the area and enjoyed it both times. Four Palmers ales on tap, Best Bitter, 200, Copper Ale and Dorset Gold all of which were in decent form. The menu is mainly based around the specials board and offers a decent variety of dishes including local seafood and more meaty offerings. Would highly recommend a Chideock Egg as a starter (scotch egg made with chorizo, delicious) and the fish and chips was excellent (although they are fries, not chips) with a generous sized piece of fish and nice crispy batter. The staff were helpful and friendly and they also allow dogs in, which is nice.

Sorry anne and sally i have to disagree. Yes the pub is under new management but the menu is very limited now and the pub has only declined over the last 3 yrs since paul and tracy where there. We visit chideock 3 times a year every year and tried this week knowing there where new managers. Still grunted at on arrival, still made to feel " we only want your money " with no friendly chat at all. Drinks are on average 1 per pint dearer than another establishment in the village and we ate at that same establishment twice for less than our single meal cost here. Same music at the pub as it was 6-7 yrs ago and repeated every wednesday and some saturdays. Time for a change of tactic needed but being a tied pub it probably cant compete with the other pub on the main road. Prices are facts the rest is just our opinion sorry.
