Sad to report that this pub is no longer there and has been replaced by a bar called 'Church Street' :(

I went into this pub about three of months ago in the late afternoon. It was pretty quiet and the few people there were beinfg accosted by a couple of guys who were blind drunk. We went and sat outside only to be followed by one of the drunks who rambled on at another couple sitting there. About an hour after I left I went past the pub and the drunks were sitting outside shouting at passers by. At no time did the staff seem at all intersted in the behaviour of the drunks. OK if absolutley desperate but theer are plenty of better pubs in Brighton.

After finding the Heart and Hand packed to the rafters and then the pubs across the way in a similar state of capacity it was to the Black Horse that myself and two friends ventured, desperate to take shelter from the bitter December cold. Our doing so immediately doubled the number of people in attendance, but that was okay - all I really wanted was to nurse a pint of two before heading back to Hove to dine with friends. Had I not had this previous engagement I could have quite easily made those 2 pints turn into 3, 4 or even 5. A semi-decent winter boozer then, if a bit quiet.
Good for: Saturday afternoon drinks and winter booze ups - 6/10

This pub has now been taken over by new management since the last review and is very, very different.

The Pub attracts a mixed crowd of young and older punters. It has a friendly ambiance and serves a good range of beers, wines and spirits.

The Bar staff are attentive, friendly and great fun. I have seen some great shows there, including open mic nights and performances by Miss Trudi Styles (a sight to be seen!). Definately worth checking out if your in town and swiftly becoming my local.
