I wasn't expecting too much from the George. But it did marginally exceed my expectations. The interior is open-plan and fairly large. There is also an outdoor drinking area at the front, where you can get accosted by drunks and you can admire the local motor racing up Enfield's version of Talladega. Tables inside were all wet and sticky from previous incumbents. But they did have 3 ales - Sharps Doom Bar, Purity Pure Gold & Timothy Taylor Dark Mild. I don't see the latter too often in these parts and it was in fairly good condition. The price was reasonable too. So swings and roundabouts here.

Dire place, cheap and tacky impersonation of a 'spoons attracting the dregs of Enfield society. Real ale tasted stale, clearly a place to drink cheap lager whilst visiting the bookies!.

Pleasantly surprised with how The George seems to have improved over the last year or so.

The change in food menu and more recently the addition of sports channels, both Sky and BT, have almost transformed this once dingy and last resort pub into a venue you might actually choose to frequent.

The staff, in the main, also seem to be happier in their jobs which has thankfully translated into better and friendlier service. However, they are it would seem, continually let down by management who are intent on maintaining skeleton staff levels which means the wait at the bar can often seem like a lifetime even when the pub isn’t actually that busy.

Still, credit where it’s due – it’s a decent enough pub to drink in for Enfield Town, although that perhaps says more about the ever declining number of pubs in Enfield.

Busy at lunchtime when I popped in for a quick pint. Could explain why there were plenty of empties and dirty dishes on the tables - although when I left, one girl was doing a sterling job clearing them away.
Five ales on tap, from EPA at 2 a pint to Black Beauty porter from the Vale brewery, at 3. Went for that one, despite being the most expensive, as it was the most local beer and also the most interesting of the selection.
Tasted okay although nothing special and wouldn't cause me to race back.

Best avoided at weekends especially if over 30. Cheap beer but clientele best described as vermin. Cheap food and lethargic bar staff. Too many wannabee kids in the evening and TOWIE types with smeared fake tan, corn beef legs and pelmet skirts. Hoop earings optional.. I keep waiting for ray winstone to smack someone with a pool ball in a sock like in 'scum'
