user reviews of the Billet, Sittingbourne

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Gone badly downhill since the old tenants left and Greene King took it back as a managed pub, food is mediocre if you can actually get served as the staff spend most of their time hiding in the kitchen. It looks as if the drug dealers have moved back in and the staff do not seem to have any control. The pub last year used to be a nice busy place that you could take your family to nowadays it is full of loud mouthed chavs with foul language.
A typical managed pub now really, no one cares as they get paid anyhow

Lurid refit recently and seems to attract the more undesirable crowd nowadays

Fairly recently modernised and under new (old) ownership. Much better than it was about 12 months ago...no longer stick to the carpet as you walk through and you're not drowned out by screaming chavs and their baby buggies!!!

Funniest thing I've ever seen in this pub - was a guy wearing a solid gold toilet chain with pride!! Much better pub nowadays.

I was interested to see this establishment based on the changes made.
I must say the bar area is very pleasing clean & light not at all cramped.Good real ale & served in oversize glasses a real bonus.
Restaurant nice not cramped & "NO SMOKING" great to enjoy the food without tobacco flavouring.
On to the menu Traditional 3 course sunday roast with excellent starters.Roast beef not really anything to write home about .The roast potatoes appeared to be deep fried .Vegetables excellent.Unfortunately the seets on the chalkboard were a bit of a letdown no traditiona puddings at all only ice cream merimgue or a fudge cake (very sickly) My suspicions are that deserts were all from Brake Brothers (All frozen)
However we finished the meal with an excellent cup of coffee.
One thing I was surpised at was the cost of wines all seemed to be about 14 "in a pub ??" I think a mark up of 400% high.

The Billet used to be a regular haunt of mine, this was until the refit. Eugh it's horrid now. It's been painted bright white inside and all the lights have been cranked up to full power. I felt like a rabbit in headlights as I walked through the door. There's no more pool table, and no more Sky Sports. In fact, there are no TV's in there at all now, just sofa's and what look like old church benches.
It's sad as it used to be a really good pub.
