This pub has chanes dramatically over the years, I have been drinking here for a decade and can gladly say it is in it's prime. The pub had a makeover September 2011 (yes, the previous tenants have taken leave due to popular demand!) and now looks fantastic, no more run down furniture, questionable chairs and has had a decent lick of paint. The ales are consistent with the Fullers brand; HSB, pride, etc and the pipes are cleaned very regularly which is great news for all you real beer drinkers out there, I am with you! the menu has the pub classics - you can neve go wrong with any of them, you got to try the ginger beer ham with a host of different specials making an appearance every week.
The staff are amongst the friendliest you can come across, always willing to chat and a bit of a laugh regardless of how busy it may get and there's a great amount of live music organised from jazz to the old classics.

All in all this is the best, genuine old pub left in the waterlooville area, well done to guys running it - you are a shining example to the others out there!

Party of five dined here on Sun 24/6/12.
Superb menu for a smallish pub. Excellently cooked food. The usual sunday roast menu plus a thoughtful list of exotics, i.e. sweet potato curry with chickpeas, (which I had-delicious! ) plus one other veggie choice, both of which could be added to with a meat addition if desired. other choices included ginger beer soaked ham, fish & chips ( no greasy batter or chips here, which were whole potato, skin included & delicious, plus other choices. A choice of desserts & three real ales. A nice informal atmosphere, pleasant service from attentive staff. I call 20 per head for a main, dessert & two pints great value. We will be back !

I last rated this pub in 2006, it was somewhat negative. Despite being my closest local for the last 40 years - I rarely (almost never) used it, at one time I did not enter for 10 years (till they changed the landlord). Gales at one time said they would make improvement but that never came to fruition. You only have to read the old reviews to see some of the problems.
I was resigned to it becomming a housing development - thus losing yet another pub.
Last week I discovered that the Farmer had been taken over and refurbished. Today I visited and was surprised by the changes. It was bright and airy and looked very clean, I think this is the first decorating completed in the last 35 years. The HSB was excellent. We had already eaten so cannot comment on the food, but by all accounts it is excellent so will give it a go next weekend. The landlady was very pleasant and told us what they had managed to do so far and her plans for the future. I really hope she succeeds, she deserves to, it seems she has already brought the pub back to life. I hope she gets full support from Fullers. I will definately start to use it on a regular basis.

The pub IS under new management and the Fields family welcome you to the 'new' Farmer Inn. We have refurbished two thirds of the pub thanks to the 30+ volunteers who responded to The Farmer Inn Facebook 'Your Local Pub Needs You' Event (which appeared in The News, The Sun and the Daily Express!) and we plan to refurbish the remaining third of the pub very soon!
Food is served from 12-9 Mon to Sat and 12-6 on Sundays. We are offering 'Two Mains for 12' between 12 noon and 6pm during October and November and our Christmas Party and Christmas Day menus are now available. We look forward to seeing you soon at 'the very new Farmer Inn'!!!
