I went here for lunch on New Years Eve with some friends and had a very pleasant experience with nice surroundings and friendly student type bar staff. We decided to rearrange our last minute NYE and go back later on as they said the downstairs 'club' would be open at 11pm and it all seemed nice enough.

We arrived around 9pm and the atmosphere in the place was totally different to lunchtime with a bar full of aggressive, angry looking and acting eastern European men accompanied by females who looked like they did most of their trade at night. When the men weren't eyeballing everyone else in the bar they seemed to spend the rest of their time going to the toilets in groups. Even the bar staff were totally different. The hostile atmosphere was so tense it felt like it was all about to kick off at any moment so we decided to leave at 11pm as none of us wanted to stay any longer.

We also decided to pay by cash as none of us wanted to hand over a credit card.

A Jackal and Hyde bar!

We used the upstairs for a work party and they really couldn't have done more for us - and it was free! We had platters on all of the tables which were great value and because we pre-ordered our drinks we got a really good discount. Building is historic and far better laid out like a pub than some of the pretentious local bars with minimalist furniture and snotty staff!

I just searched for this place on Google to get the number so I could call them and ask if my bag had been handed in, as I was in there last night and it disappeared during the course of the evening. From reading the reviews I stumbled across here and my experience last night, it seems like there's basically organised theft going on here, so I wont be going back. Wish I'd known this yesterday...

Why do they have a massive sign saying RESTAURANT NOW OPEN when it's always closed even during weekends???

This pub could be good had it's bouncers not been crooked and the bar staff ignorant.

Whilst in the club bit downstairs we noticed a lady hanging round us staring at our bags, then talking to the bouncer. Come the end of the night, we find out friends purse on the floor with everything gone, so we complain to the bar staff and manager and were accused of being liars and even though we found the purse in the middle of the dance floor when it was half empty, we were told there was no CCTV as it 'would take a million cameras to cover the whole bar'.

Rude, ignorant awful bar staff, and it looks as though the bouncers are in on the thieving act!
