please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Disaster ! Half of Hoxton and Shoreditch have found this place ! Proper pub. Doombar is always fine , usually another bitter on pump as well. Cheap ! Mush more reasonable than the nearby Fox and Windmill and none of that gourmet / gastro nonsense, proper pub grub either. Fish finger sandwiches, lasagne /chips, ham , egg and chips 5 - Done ! Specials 6 , Scampi or fish and chips. Fantastic bloomer bread sandwiches 2 or 3, you just can't beat it. Damn them neighbours finding the OKH , bugger off it's ours we were here first !

I have recently found this little gem which is tucked away behind curtain road, it's a pleasant pub that's been recently refurbished but they have managed to hold onto that traditional pub feel which is hard to come by.
From entering you can clearly see this pub is a family run pub with friendly staff who tended to my every need. They serve a wide range of beers, ales, wines and sprirt's and the prices are really reasonable which is another thing that's hard to come by in the area of late.
I decided to visit this pub at lunch time which was a good move on my part as this was the best pub lunch I have had in a long time. The sandwiches are amazing fresh crusty white bread and huge, I could just about get my teeth into it and a fish finger sandwich on the menu always a must.
All in all a good little find.
They have a sign up saying open Saturday for sport so i'm gonna take myself down for the fottie and check it out...

Largely concur with murgatroyd below. A smallish traditional Victorian corner boozer with a green tiled exterior situated in the wasteland between Hoxton and Liverpool street, but benefiting from the quietness of the area, as you can drink outside without being bothered by passing traffic. Very comfortable interior and well-priced beers considering the area.
Its a bit difficult to track down but worth it and was very busy with the after work crowd at the time of my visit.

Around the fringes of the City there are still a few old style pubs like the Old Kings Head clinging on. It's been refurbished since the last time I visited but despite what looked suspiciously like a love seat in one corner it's still pretty much a traditional interior.

The streets round here are a bit of a no-mans land wedged as they are between the suits in the City and the laughable "trendiness" of Hoxton. Most of the buildings are run down offices housing the service companies that feed off the City giants ( you know IT services, Corporate travel agencies, couriers and so on). The age and demeanour of the patrons and the dishevelled suits suggest that these are indeed the employers that the pub draws most of its clientele from. It might be nominally in Hoxton but spiritually it's miles away.

It's a good place this and the quietness of the streets around (helped no doubt by the local council shutting down roads and using one way signs) mean that drinking outside is easy and pleasant. I'd walk past most of the other pubs in the area to come for a pint here.
