Cosy little pub between the centre and the river. Beer was good, a comfortable place to have a drink.

Seemed a nice enough pub - then you meet the staff. Oh dear. What appears to be some creature impersonating an older head bar man was truculent, vulgar & then just downright rude. The only staff with customer service was the young girl - but the owner of this pub needs to consider getting rid of this bar man - truly awful. When the bar area is also occupied by the staff's equally loud & rude mates - you know you're in a very badly run pub indeed. First time in here - and as not a masochist - definitely the last.

Nice centrally placed pub, surprisingly quiet at midday. Coal fire, choice of free newspapers (though all right-wing!), good selection of beers, food not tried. Staff very friendly and pleasant but knew nothing about the beers when asked!

The Fox: yes, I can't help but agree with Lipster (26/9/13) about the polite, but inexperienced staff. I don't think anything has changed much on that front in the last 7 months.
I had a nice little drinky here, not long ago, but the actual bar area at the front is quite 'pokey', with not many seats to choose from. If there's a group of you, you may not get a seat.
I noticed an old wooden money-box secured to the bar itself. It has some old-fashioned name ( Ebenezer..!) inscribed on it & Billingsgate fish market...!! So i asked one of the young barmen what this box was all about. He looked quizically at me, and then informed me, he'd been working here for 2 years and never seen the box before..!! :o( TJ

terrible from the word go , arrived at 12 30 on a sunday afternoon with my family for a roast lunch and a few beers . we were drawn in by the new conservatory and eating area to be disappointed by mess everywhere ! the bar staff looked and acted like they had been out all night on the sauce , no management structure and people standing around looking bedazzled ?pub is run like a student bar by bloody students ! the food was medioca at best , a unpleasant experience never to be repeated
