The pub has been closed for a refurb and reopened early April 2013.
Decor and facilities top class but seems like customers are to pay for this.
The only bitter is John Smiths at a wopping £3.80 a pint.
Lagers and ciders cost even more!
The food menu matches the pricey drinks, fish and chips will set you back £13.00.
It's a shame that this once popular local serving a range of beers and food at very reasonable prices is now beyond the reach of the majority.

This pub is now an Indian restaurant. It also advertises itself a pub cum restaurant. The new owners (staff? - as it is actually owned by a guy who owns two other restaurants) are very friendly but to be honest it doesn't feel like a pub anymore. It only serves expensive nitro-keg and you feel as though you are sitting in the reception area for the restaurant. .

This pub has recetly been taken over by a new company and itseems that they have the right iea. The food has seen a big improement in quality since they took ver and the staff now seem to be a lot mor friendly and competent. As a local of the area and a regular customer I am nw very happy to eat and drink at this pub. Keep up the good work fellas, its certainly paying off.

This shoudl be a great pub, large population to support it, great location, historic building (parts of it are listed).
But...the hand pumps are permanently out of use, the toilets often are a disgrace, the managements are currently unfriendly. Can be so good, shame currently being run into the ground. No doubt another refurb a good new manager and once again they will try to crack the problem! PLEASE GET IT RIGHT, this should be a jewel in the crown for any pub estate - what a disappointment.

Stumbled on this place in a search for Saturday afternoon PubLunch. Seemed nice enough, plenty of parking and generally clean even through Friday night was not a million miles ago.
Barstaff were helpful and polite.
Food was terrible - an amazing combination of burnt _and_ swimming in grease. This problem was across both courses for both meals.
Not sure if the waitress was hungover, but she didn't have a particularily nice attitude.
We had asked ourselves why the food seemed so cheap when we first sat down, unfortunately it's obviously at the expense of inadequately trained kitchen and front-of-house staff.
Maybe we just got unlucky, there were a few other people eating there who didn't look quite as disgusted as us.
