Walked by The Cavalier earlier on today and it was closed. Let's hope this is just temporary and someone takes over who actually knows what they're doing. Used to be a wonderful pub, but since the longstanding owner and his manager retired about 2 1/2 years ago a succession of managers have run the place into the ground. Such a shame as the position of the pub between the sea front and the theatres/art gallery must be one of the best in Eastbourne. Keeping my fingers crossed and hopefully Eastbourne Council will oppose any change of use due to the pub's prominent position in the town's main tourist area.

If you'd like to see a once great traditional pub in rapid decline, look no further than The Cavalier.

Dear oh dear , a throwback from the 1970s. The locals seemed perfectly happy with it and we had to leave before the karaoke started. In comparison , the local Wetherspoons was like a palace. The unfortunate huge fish kept in a tank that it could barely fit into didn't help with the atmosphere. I also suffered from overcharging as I was a tourist.

This is a very odd! The tables at the front are set with checked table clothes as mentioned and the back has two pool tables on a raised platform. The Brakspears was not on but the Harveys was in good nick. Friendly enough staff enjoyed the visit.

A curious pub not far from the Winter Gardens. As you walk through the door, you are presented with a food area which makes the pub look scruffy. It is comfortable with a central bar and a pool table on a raised area at the rear of the lounge. A good selection of real ales including Brakespear, Courage, Harveys and Hobgoblin.
