user reviews of the Red Lion, Bishop Sutton

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I think the previous review is for the wrong pub. Fart has left several reviews for pubs in Sutton, Surrey and I cant imagine the Stones ever playing in this sleepy Somerset village.

The pub is much improved since my last visit, but that was a few years ago. At that time this was the tired looking pub in the village whereas the Butchers down the road had been tidied up and was quite pleasant. Now the situations reversed and the Butchers looks very sorry for itself. In fact Im not even sure it was open.

Essentially this is a one room pub, although there is a segmented bar area off to the left with a plasma on the wall showing football and a darts board. The main lounge area is tidy and pleasant enough being mostly carpeted with some attractive tiling around the bar and out towards the garden. It doesnt have the cosy atmosphere you get in some country pubs, although theres an attractive stone fire place at one end.

Landlady was friendly enough, and theres a decent looking pub grub menu with a small specials board, plus a second board for some real comfort puddings bread and butter pudding, jam roly poly, spotted dick, treacle sponge, etc!

Beers on this occasion were Tribute, Doom Bar and Courage Best. Ciders were Natch and Olde English.

Alright boozer, with a good location for other stuff, range could be improved. The Stones used to play here back in the day.
