This pub is a little out of the way, but well worth checking out. Its been one of my favourites ever since I started going to pubs, and its good to see it hasnt really changed that much and still seems popular. Located on a quiet country lane, theres a small patio with a couple of tables at the front, and a larger patio and very pleasant beer garden around the side.

The pub itself is quite olde worlde with a flagstone floor, a real fire (log or a mixture of log and coal apparently, depending on how cold it is), plenty of trinkets hanging from the roof, a mixture of red velvet bench seating and stools and lots of horse brasses and old pictures on the walls. Only the plasma stuck up in the corner seems out of place, although fortunately that was off on our visit. There is also a small snug with a leather sofa and a dart board.

There seems to be a good selection of wines and spirits behind the bar, and there was a decent pub grub menu, although the prices were perhaps a little on the high side with most of the mains being around the 9 mark. That said though, it was decent quality food and generous portions, so Ive no complaints. There was also a selection of specials chalked up on a board next to the fire.

The landlord and barman seemed friendly enough and mentioned that they have a table skittles team every Wednesday. There is also a skittles alley, and a couple of boards up advertising a Jazz & Curry night and a Ladies Evening, so theres plenty going on.

Beers on tap were Henrys IPA, 6X and Butcombe. Good selection of ciders, namely Thatchers Gold, Stowford Press, Blackthorn and Westons Old Rosie.

For a pub in the nowhere region,it certainly got busy as i and the entourage were leaving..We had a very good chatty welcome, from the new Hosts, who have only been there a couple of weeks or so.The real ale selection was good and tasty.as was the food good sized portions,Steak/kidney pud..homemade steak/ale pie...homemade chilli co carne, all received very reviews..The only qualm for me,would be to replace the chips with homemade or higher quality frozen steakcut ones..Apart from that, the old world decor looked nice, and would say that this going to a good eatery/drinking place if the first 2weeks are anything to go by,,well done good start....
