The Trooper remains reliable for good food, expensive but on the better end of the value-price trade-off. The beer range is three decent cask ales - last visit was Bowman Swift One and Wallops Wood alongside Ringwood Best (no Doom Bar or Pride - so worth a couple of points just for that).

Service is good - and there is sufficient rotation in the menu to make each visit interesting.

Most of the comments posted before mine reflect this pub/eatery. The beer is well kept, though the range is a little limited. The food is good but as previously commented on rather pricey. I paid 17.00 for three lamb cutlets. What I really objected to was that on the menu it stated that a party of 8 or more would automatically be charged 10% service charge. WE were a party of 10 walkers. I challenged this & was told the charge would be waived. I did not leave a tip so a comment like that on the menu is very counter productive to the staff.

Now this may not be very PC but I prefer to be served by waiting staff who have a command of English.
This was my first visit to the Trooper, some things it doe,s well but it is not for me. I rate it a lowly 6.

I can only reiterate the previous comments. We had lunch here a while back and stayed overnight this bank holiday. Both the pub and the B & B are clean and comfortable and the staff friendly and attentive. Not much of a beer selection but what was available was well kept. The food is good but pricey though that didn't seem to be detering the customers. I'de come again.

Thought this was an ok pub, beer selection was nothing special Hogs back Tea and Ringwood but it has a catchy feel about it nice decor and very relaxed feel about the place, sort the beers out and you'll have a top class pub
