Seems to be getting very close to reopening - after refurbishment.

It is indeed closed and closed very abruptly a couple of weeks ago. Apparently someone with reservations turned up to check into their room and it was shut with a steel door in place!

It has signs outside saying lease for sale so there is hope. Its a big place and seriously old so I think it will need someone with very deep pockets to take it on.

Lovely feel to this place. Good beers. Smell of woodsmoke in the main bar. Many small snugs.

We went today for a change. Our first visit in over 20 years and will be returning again very soon. We had roast venison which was served with four different veg all cooked to perfection. The puddings were also nice but a bit more choice would have been a bonus. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, yet not in your face which is nice if you just want to be left alone. One little fault and it is only a little one, it was a bit cold in the restaurant due to no fire and the radiator by our table was stone cold. On the whole I would highly recommend a visit to this charming village and hotel.
