user reviews of the Cornish Arms, Carbis Bay

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I enjoyed this pub.. slightly 'out of town' for people staying in St.Ives, but great for those in Carbis bay, and you can also alight here with a small detour off the coast path.. Good, basic pub food. I sampled the steak and ale pie plus the 8oz steak whilst we were in Carbis bay and both were great. 2 Sharps ales, Doom bar and (my favourite) Sea Fury plus Skinners Porthleven. On a sadder note it was on the TV whilst we wea here that Skinners were closing down, which came as a surprise for a brewery well established. Anyway, give thi pub a go...

Now under new ownership. A fairly large pub which retains some exposed stonework, open fireplaces and Georgian/Victorian windows combined with internal brick arches (1980s?) which form "rooms", a new slate-style floor and new upholstery. I thought the Sharps Own was expensive at 3.30, did not try the Betty Stogs. Wine does not seem to be served in anything smaller than 175ml glasses. There is a pool table in the upper part of the pub and just 2 tables in an outside yard. No car park which makes it difficult for those who are not staying locally. Pretty decent place overall and have been there more than once for a drink.

Always looked inviting from the roadside so called in on this trip to St Ives. Some character in the front part of the pub which I presume is the original part. Did not eat but beer was fine - out of season so nice and quiet inside with just locals.

Went to this pub whilst on holiday in St.Ives and was very pleasantly surprised. Friendly staff and an exceptional lemon sole for dinner (better than in some of the 'posh' and overpriced eateries in St.Ives). Only really stayed for dinner, but had the impression that this is a really great locals' pub - which is also very welcoming to strangers from out of town.

Good "real" pub, had Doom Bar and Ruddles County the couple of nights I visited. Friendly banter, good honest food - be hungry, excellent sunday roast.
Live music on the sinday night I was there, 60's/70's covers by two competent guitar players/singers. A place to relax - nothing pretentious, a pub as they used to be.
