BEST GAY FRIENDLY PUB IN BARNET...NO DOUBT! Been a few times in recent months and this is undoubtedly the best gay friendly pub in and around Barnet. There was absolutely no issues with petting my partner in the top bar and the bottom bar area also offers intimacy. Go outside and there's a secluded stable area that allows you a free-reign. The garden is a little exposed to neighbouring flats - best not to get involved there. The landlord is also welcoming although his syrup-of-fig is laughable. A couple of menacing dogs prowl the pub so beware. An extremely good condom machine in the gents which looks to be suitably stocked and I'd highly recommend this pub to any gays that are visiting the area. The food ain't much cop...but show me a gay friendly pub that serves good nosh and I'll bite your hand off. BigKnob - 17 May 2013 23:51
Wonderful Historic pub hidden behind a rather unremarkable frontage. Good if safe selection of beers always kept well, great friendly and efficient bar staff terrific mix of customers and unbeatable atmosphere it really feels like a country pub. Finally opened up interior access to the rear Stable bar which can be hired too. Also quite large pub garden area by the former stables. Also ideal for a well earned drink after a longish walk through Hadley Common, as we do from Cockfosters. Probably my favourite pub in the Barnet & Enfield area. spyinthesky - 29 Apr 2013 11:33
I've been drinking in The Mitre for 25 years and it's been the best pub in High Barnet for virtually all of that time, even with various changes of management / ownership. The selection of ales is a little predictable - I would like to see more local beers from London / Hertfordshire brewers, especially with so many small breweries opening up. But what is served is invariably well kept and the choice does vary. Some interesting bottled beers wouldn't go amiss though. Sadly Barnet has lost many pubs in recent years, although to be honest none that I can think of were very welcoming, but The Mitre remains the best bet for a decent night out. a_cheeky_half - 6 Apr 2013 09:57
Good array of beers and ciders inc old Rosie . Always busy, always managed to get seat, and friendly landlord has helped . Staff friendly and attentive . Saw landlord refuse in a very friendly manner to serve two guys who had already had enough , on last visit. Pub food ok. Should ban smokers of electric cigarettes for looking stupid. patriclaire - 3 Mar 2013 10:11
