cant beat the place for location and it makes the most of it by having a spectacular beer garden.

Food was quick, good value and quality.

Ales were varied - with Castlerigg IPA and Thwaites Bitter in great condition.

Large hotel, bar and restaurant in the tiny but beautiful village of Buttermere, this is one of 2 here and when we arrived was very quiet, that all changed within 15 minutes as the garden got packed with walkers, most accompanied by their dogs.

Another Jennings run pub with 3 of their ales on plus another 3 as guest's & Old Rosie cider, the ales were all very decent brews but I had to have the very local Keswick Brewery Thirst Quencher @ 4.3%, nicely kept.

I cannot comment much on the interior as we took our drinks & sat out the back in the suntrap beer garden admiring the view's.

I rate this one 7/10 and that's for the ale selection and suntrap garden.

On first glance, this looks like a nightmare out of a Marty Feldman bus tour sitcom with old fashioned decor and empty to character but the ales were kept very well indeed - Thirst Blossom from the Keswick Brewing Co. and Ale Mary from Jennings were both lipsmackingly good. The food looks utilitarian and hence, we opted for the nearby Bridge, but the Fish wins for ale as well as for tradition given that the famous Maid of Buttermere served here. A glorious view up to the High Stile Range and mercifully bereft of mobile phone reception.

Excellent location 'neath the fells. Good service and a reasonable beer range. Food was pretty good too. Let us leave the car in their car park while we tottered round the lake.

Thought the place exactly what you'd want in a country inn. Warm welcome, good range of beers well kept and the food... I had a wonderful sirloin steak cooked exactly as requested that just melted in the mouth. My wife had the scampi and chips, which she said was excellent. Her sister had the hamburger which also earned great praise. The chips are real chips, toasty hot and delicious.
The landlord even came and helped us break into the nearby disabled loo when we mislaid the RADAR key - now that is service!
