user reviews of the Royal Oak, Paull

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

There are three pubs on the main street in this small village by the Humber Estuary. I took pot luck, tried this one and wasn't disappointed. It is a very cosy, comfortable little place with an ambience very authentic to the way pubs typically used to be (no blaring music for a start). Available on hand pump were Jennings' Cumberland Ale and Banks's bitter, both of which were good.

Cosy friendly pub, always nice and warm in winter after youve had a walk on the nearby river humber embankment. Food is very tasty and resonably priced.2 real ales on (prices keep edging up) but is always ok. Small car park opposite, which is handy. Great beer garden at back the views of the river take some beating! Staff seem a welcoming lot. Toilets clean and tidy. Recommended.

Reasonable and traditional boozer with a cosy interior in the two front rooms and a large rear open eating area with good views over the Humber. Serves Cumberland and Banks Bitter, like the other two pubs in the village i.e. not exactly local beer but at least a choice of two real ales . And now facing renewed competition in the village from an upgraded Humber Tavern and soon to be refurbished Crown. So with a last number 78 bus back to Hull after midnight six nights a week, good enough for a mini crawl. One of those pubs you wouldn't have reason to crticise nor rave about either.

Visited this pub on a Monday evening and found it nearly empty apart from a darts match taking place. Two real ales were being served, Jennings Cumberland Ale and Banks Bitter. The usual pool table and TV were present and I noticed a restaurant area as well. If you like eating and drinking alfresco, then this is the place for you, as you can sit outside and enjoy the spectacular view of the Humber River. A friendly pub with a nice atmosphere.
