| A very muddy 8 mile walk around Hook led us to the C&H for lunch. And a pleasant experience it was too. A fairly traditional pub with wooden floors, rustic traditional furnishings and lots of wood to sit on and eat off of. It's Hall & Woodhouse, so Badger First Gold and Fursty Ferret was the available choice. We tried both and they were fine. A good range of food - we tried Ham, Egg and Chips, Fish and Lasagne and they all came up to scratch. A log fire was available but after slogging over soggy fields we needed cooling down, not heating up. Barman was very friendly. Pub not hugely busy, only half a dozen apart from us. | A pleasantly situated country pub serving Hall & Woodhouse beers ,two small bar areas with additional seating dotted around the front half of the pub,the rear half is set out for dining. Outside seating at the front of the pub and a beer garden at the rear overlooking the Hampshire countryside,however tried a pint of Hopping Hare which proved to be rather flat and lifeless after ten minutes of pouring, so turned to the other offering Badger Best I think, Cant exactly recall as it was even more uninspiring than the first. | Visited with the family for a lunch yesterday (a Saturday)for the first time in many years. Beer was excellent, well kept and served. Food a real disappointment. After looking at the menu online we arrived to find a much reduced lunch time menu. My lasagne was clearly a warmed up plate from a previous evening with hard dry edges all round and one of the burgers was pretty much cremated. Salad a handful of bag leaves with a bit of tomato and a couple of slices of cucumber. Plentiful chip but standard and frozen. Prices reasonable for this area and would have been good for the local produce and home cooked food advertised. Such a shame as this is a lovely traditional English pub and could be so much better. | We had our works office meal at this superb restaurant on Saturday 18.12.11. I cannot rate the service, hospitality and friendliness of the staff highly enough. The meal was beautifully cooked, hot throughout and served with a smile! We had the whole back room to ourselves, which was decorated in a lovely, traditional way and was so cosy with the lit fire and candlelights along the windowsills. | NIce pub- in November on a cold day there was a log fire at lunchtime- cosy! Very friendly. Beer OK. Bar snack fine esp. chips. Musroom omlette was rubbery and mushrooms not freshly cooked so take care selecting meals. Worth another try. micksimm - 11 Dec 2011 17:41 |
