A dreadful place.

Do they keep the home fires burning? No! it's freezing cold.

The men's loo hand dryer did not work. An expensive pub should not suffer from this kind of defect or lack of service. After all what are you paying for?

Food grossly awful, the worst I have ever had in a pub. I ordered the lunch time. Burger and Chips. The Burger was wafer thin, just one of those ghastly cheap and nasty frozen ones. They added a slice of cheese [processed of course] with the burger. I did not order a cheeseburger and it was described as such on the menu, so that was outrageous. I hate cheeseburgers. The chips were those ghastly frozen types, cold and tasteless. The tomato ketchup served was just awful. Soggy floppy burger buns. Altogether just plain Yuk! MacDoh's sells better burgers.

Their Facebook page says

"The White Bear the menu goes live serving the best in home cooked food locally served and never frozen ..."

It does not live up to that

And the pub was expensive!

Terrible - cursory service was just one crime in this temple of the Greene King ethos - from the outside, the building is comely despite the presence of roundabout but the beer garden makes no use of its size and location while the default attitude of the young British male - to never allow others to think one is not cool, hard and in control - shines through as it does so often amid our grubby suburbs.

This pub is very close to the canal, So ideal after a nice walk on the towpath, the food is very good, large menu, and will serve small meals for children, we called in on the Sunday with our daughter and grand daughter and found the manager friendly, which was good as he is the chef, 4 good beers, and bar staff excellent, choice of 3 roasts plus full menu, in the following week we used the pub a lot and will be calling in next time we pass.

This has been my usual pub for Friday lunch for the last few months (mainly due to location), and it has certainly been more than acceptable. The food nothing special, but perfectly acceptable for the price, and the beer is usually very good, and it varies regularly. The staff don't go out of their way, but provide a good service. Only once the food was very slow to come out (about 40 mins), usually we always got it in reasonable time.
Apart for the tv (which the landlord was always happy for us to turn down) and the slot machine (which isn't too noisy), the pub has got a bit of character, and is quite pleasant.
