Chef & Brewer (Greene King) pub/restaurant that is close to the M1. IPA & Abbot were the only real ales. On my Saturday visit, most people were in for the food. I was one of only two drinkers. Families are welcomed. But, drinks are very expensive. This was a poor start to a tour of Bedfordshire hostelries.

Great food here, and reasonable choice of beer. It's a cut above most Chef & Brewer pubs I've been to, but it still has more of a restaurant than a pub feel. As it's the only pub in the village, this may change during evening or the weekends.

Comment on Star at Chalton Bedfordshire

I go to the quiz at the Star with friends every month and we always enjoy our meals, the staff are very friendly and the atmosphere good. This week we found that Costa had taken over the as the provider of coffee and tea, so where as before the coffee came at about 2.00 with a biscuit, it now was 2.40 (no biscuit) and tea was 2.20! It was served in those large thick cups so the tea goes cold rapidly. Why has this happened?
We felt this was expensive so will wait until we get home for our tea and coffee next time.

Went for lunch yesterday - hadn't been there for years. Surroundings drab, no ambiance at all. Soup of the day was different to that prmoised, chosen main dish was 'off'. Substitute chicken dish was luke warm, dried out and tough. Very disappointing and will not be returning.
