user reviews of the Famous Hop'N'Grapes, Torquay

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Pub well and truly open now.
Yes it is in a rather odd location but a pint of John smiths was only £2.30!
Many other pints also at this price with cheap wine too.
No ale on offer at the moment although i'm sure that will come.
A decent large circular layout inside with a huge central bar area.
Well worth a visit.

9/10

Closed - shame had some good times over the years next to the open fire

Yep, I was told it was called the 'Hope and Grope" too. When I went in I could see why. Far too packed with kids, unable to move, people barging me about etc. Never again.

Sometimes known locally as the 'Hope and Grope' this a a bit of a schizoid establishment. In the evening it is noisy, cramped and full of 18-20 year olds (so probably best avoided), but at lunchtime or during the afternoon it can be quite a pleasant retreat for a quiet pint. The vicinity is insalubrious to say the least, being sandwiched between a cliff and the loading bays of Union Street's businesses and dominated by a grim multi-storey car park provided by Torbay Council as a launch pad for a large proportion of local suicides.
